I want to get an exhaust, but i dont want to jepordize the ability to resell it.

I was going to get one from Bavauto. How simple are these systems to install?

How much money am i looking at to have it installed?

I want to spend around/ but not much more than $500 to $600.

actually it seems that the only exhausts availible from bavauto is the remus, and its a little more than i want to spend.

but, i know that bavauto jacks up their prices, so can anyone suggest somewhere else to order one from? I live in the New England area.

the remus is a "muffler"......typically..you cut off your stock muffler....and weld in or clamp in the new muffler.....you can pretty much do the same to put back the stock if you like..when you sell it.....

every muffler is going to have different sounds.....the size and shape of the outlet tip also makes a difference in the sound......

magnaflow makes almost every shape type and size of mufflers....just select from their universal muffler..and a muffler shop can make the hangers and either clamp it in or weld it in....to fine tune the sound..you can try out different size tips...

if you want an "exhaust"...usually there are complete cat-backs...which is the typical "complete" exhaust system....or some will sell "exhaust"..but may require a downpipe to make it a complete system....

look below your car...look at the stock muffler...measure it...note which directions the pipes are set..center or off to one side....than you pretty much pick a universal muffler with similar dimensions and outlets...

you can't get a good exhaust system with a budget of 500-600 bucks, maybe a muffler, and that's a big maybe

I have to cut out the old system? that seems a little drastic just to put in a muffler.

How much are they to put in at a local shop?

You have to understand what an exhaust system is. It is a long metal pipe with various turns and contours with things like mufflers welded throughout. You cant just pick what you want to replace without replacing the entire piece or cutting out the parts you want to change. SOMETIMES there are points where the factory creates a break with flanges so that the system is multipiece and companies will sell replacement of the last section; usually refered to as an axle-back exhaust instead of a cat back which replaces everything after the catalytic converters. If you were creative and trusting enough you could find someone to do a catback for you without spending a shite load of money but you wont have a brand name attached to the part. Shop around and research it.

audi/vw mufflers were one piece from the cat to the muffler...you literally had to chop sections at a time to remove....

cutting is not really drastic...it's pretty normal...if you are looking for a bolt-on muffler like in integras and civics, you are probably out of luck on german cars....

if you want....you can have a shop..weld on flange to the cut section....and weld a flange to the stock muffler pipe....weld a flange to the new muffler...bolt on the new muffler using the flanges.....when you want to put back the stock...unbolt aftermarket and bolt on the stock.....(this would take much more time...and probably more money)....

any muffler shop can custom make you a complete exhaust....resonator about $50....muffler..about $50 to $100..if you buy on your own....pipe are cheap..just pick you size to match the resonator and muffler...they'll start cutting, bending and welding....2 hours later..you have a complete custom made exhaust for about $300....they will usually crimp bend..so each bend will not have the smooth circular transition....flanges will cost you extra....

if you really want to go for quality..you can order mandrel bent pipes...just order the pipe diameter and angle degress.....and match it up to the muffler and resonator of your choice...no resonator if you want it LOUD.....either weld it all together...or use the flanges...

most aftermarket exhausts..will only have flanges to the connection to the cat....and will typically use clamps to connect the rest (cheaper and easier)...

when i a kid (high school and college)...i use to have custom exhausts made over and over again..until i got the right sound...i use to make my own spoiler and bodykit molds to produce fiberglass or carbon fiber parts for my car....come to think of it..i use even make room for the led brake lights in my spoilers.....anyways...if you have time...you can have things custom made for fraction of the cost if you have the time....i'm just old and lazy now...i just buy shelf products to make my life easy...

a good honda exhaust sys. will cost more than 2500.

Why would you want to put it back to original anyway? If you put on something better than stock it should increase the value of your car. Unless you stick some dorky looking civic like coffee can back there.

someone may not want an exhaust, so if they bought my car they would have to spend money getting it back to stock (or i would). Don't kid yourself that by adding on things like this actually increase the value of the car, cause they actually have an adverse effect.
