E92 Cold Start Problem

Greetings. Out of the blue, my E92 coupe is experiencing extended crank when starting first thing in the morning. I took it to the dealer and they saw some screwed up parameters with fuel pressure and updated with a new software. Unfortunately, the problem is still there. Before I start going nuts, I have a video of the long crank for everyone to see/hear. Is this normal? Surely not because it didn't do it before.

Thanks in advance

I don't have an e92 but try something out.

If you have a garage this would be easier.

When you put the key in do you her a the fuel pump going kind of around the rear wheel area?

if so wait until it stops and then press the button. If this makes it easier then you basically have an issuer with fuel supply.

Again I don't have an e92 so I am assuming it functions similarly as the e46

Interesting coincidence. This afternoon I pressed START and the engine cranked for at lesat 15 seconds. Much longer than in your video. That's the first time this ever happened, and it wasn't even cold outside. It was weird because when it happened, I didn't know what to do. It's not like you can stop turning the key to stop the thing. It just kept on going until the engine started. After it started up, I stopped the engine and restarted, but it started right up. If it happens again, I'm bringing her in.

Take er' in... mine cranks up quicker even in minus 25 degrees celcius... except for the one time where my fuel line was partially frozen.

Just out of curiosity but when the engine is cranking like that for a long time if you were to press the stop/start button again do you thing it would stop cranking just like car with normal keys would?

Nope my crank is fine. But if you are having problems with yours you should have it looked at asap. Maybe they can give you some ointment or something.

maybe you should have your car towed in. if the car needs to be cold to do that, driving it to the dealership and restarting it may not work.

sbkim.....try this out
when you hit the start button, do NOT just tap on it...hold it for 2-3 seconds, works everytime for me

This is related to the ethanol in the USA gas.....we have discussed this topic before....

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...hlight=ethanol

Will Using Fuel Mixed With Ethanol.........
Using a fuel that contains up to 10% ethanol will not harm your vehicle. However, there are a couple of things to be considered. First, under some conditions (usually low temperatures) ethanol separates from the gasoline-alcohol mixture and absorbs water. The ethanol absorbed water is heavier than gasoline or ethanol and settles at the bottom of the fuel tank. When introduced into the combustion process, this leads to an extremely lean fuel mixture and can result in misfires, rough idles, and cold starting problems.

Shiv mentioned that one of the cars that he tuned with the XEDE had an extended cranking... he thought it was something from the software update.

Here is that post...
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...6&postcount=37

maybe he has some thought on this issue? I dont think he ever found out if it was a pre-existing condition, or something after the software update...

I tried that as well but to no avail. I have never used ethanol on this car so I doubt that's the issue. Thanks

Thanks for the link... sounds like I may not be alone here. This can't be normal. FYI - my long crank existed even before the software update. Software update made it worse

Umm, considering your choice of avatar, I'm going to go ahead and disregard your comment. E30's are one of the, if not the best looking BMW's ever made. End of story.

On topic - I have not noticed extended cranking with my 335, but I do notice a slight miss at idle even when its warm. Very reminiscent of my E30. My previous e46 and e36 were smooth as silk.
