Tint on a lease car?

Is it advisable to get tint on a lease car? Will they charge you extra at lease turn in to take it off? Don't see this adressed in my lease docs.

Incorrect.

I'd be careful. Of course you can tint the car but you are supposed to turn it back in stock form.

I believe on the lease documents somewhere there is some blurb about tints.

Before you turn the car in, BMW will send out an inspector to go over your car. He will flag tints.

Now, this is not to say that people haven't returned their tinted cars with no problems, I'm just telling you what is supposed to happen.

Good Job Steve! Couldnt of been more clear myself. Its in your best interest to read over that little contract and look meticulously for anything to do with tints.

so tint is generally okay, good or bad tint job/condition...

adding a trunk spoiler, regardless of OEM or aftermarket... is not good eh.

I had tint, black kidney grills, overlays, eyelids, a cracked windsheild.. and turned it in with everything as-is. They didn't say ANYTHING to me. Maybe because I traded it in early for my E92.

Yes, often is the case, the dealership will exercise great leniency in return for your continued business. If that doesn't apply to you, you could always remove the tints prior to lease return just to play it on the safe side. Its been said that tints is one of the red flags for extra stringent inspections...

As a general rule, as long as the tint is within legal % limits, you should be ok. I did know of a lady who had to remove hers from a VW bug when she returned it to my dealership, but that was due to the very dark nature of the tint. I think it is 30% or something close to that for a limit--but if you give a call to your SA, I am sure he/she would be able to tell you how it generally works.

He mentioned something about about almost all dealers being some type of "Circle" dealership(cant remember the exact name). What that means is that they take the cars returned from lease and do not send them back to BMW. They put them back out on their own lot. So as long as the spoiler is in good taste, my dealer will accept it. You probably should clear it with your dealer first. Also, I would not bolt on the spoiler, but would use double sided 3M moulding tape.

Sort of OT... Can you return a leased car to any BMW dealer? I should have asked that when I picked up the car but I was too excited and just wanted to get drivin'.

No lease will charge you something that increases the value and appeal of the car.
It's when you do stuff that DEVALUES the car or lowers it's appeal that a company will "charge" you for.

I've turned in leased cars with aftermarket wheels, clearbra and such and no issues

Even if they did flag you for tint, how much could they reasonably charge for it? $25? It's not a big deal to strip it off.

Just do it. I change everything on my cars. I lease also. Don't worry. Also I returned 2 cars already from a lease with tint and they said nothing. All they worried about is damage.

My old man recently turned in a 745i, no problems with tint, inspected at Long Beach BMW. There was also a ACS rear spoiler on it, no issues there either.
