Should I race a 650i for pinks?? (joking..)

Well I'm not really going to, but my GFs business partner just got a 650i, I really gave it to him about why he'd pay twice the amount of my car ($120,000 CAD, vs my 335i for $59,000) when my rear seats are roomier (ie someone can actually fit in them, hell I'm 6'3" and I can fit in them with my drivers seat set for me!), I get better gas mileage, I can likely handle better due to the smaller car, and I'm pretty sure I would be dead even or possilby better off the line (BMW Canada rates 650i at 5.5s and 335i at 5.6s). So does anyone know what real life numbers a 650i puts down, we've now seen numerous 335s do 4.8-5.0seconds by magazines and owners on this forum...so what do you guys think, would I win in a race?? And why would one buy a 650i?? It does have a few cool features like HUD and night vision but is that worth all the money??

I guess prestige is a big consideration in a 6 series purchase!!

hack people buy a 6 to show off, just like a SL, it show their status, instead of blanding in to all those 3 series on the road
and if he is really into speed he should had got a m6

Is he really racing for pinks? A bit immature, but nonetheless....

I'm also assuming you're doing 1/4 mile, not 0-60 for pinks.

I don't know the numbers for the 650s 1/4 mile, but I'm sure a 335 would give a run for the money.

Besides, if you win, you can sell the 650 and buy 2 more 335i's you'll have 3 335i's.. a different color for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday!

335i will win. According to any car mag's 0-60 and 1/4 mile times I've seen.
And I don't know why someone would spend double the dough. I was - close to buying a 550i when the 335i sedan came out and canceled my order, saved 21k and lost nav and power steering wheel and gained a faster, tuneable car.

if the money is not an issue then it is status symbol. it show he can afford it. or mabye he like the styling better. i have not been in a 335i yet, but the x50i engine just keeps pulling. i would bet with several launches for each and finding the average it would be a toss up. if and when you do race him make sure you have figured out the best launch for your car.

Maybe some people actually consider how a particular car looks and not just the engine... who knew?

Seiko vs Rolex -both will tell the exact same time, one just has more style.

OK, the degree of comparison is off, but the 6 Series has a lot of style, elegance, and attention to fine detail.

or you could sell the 650i and put your name down for a E92 m3

I'm not a big fan of the 6-series but it's really a different animal from the E92.

Is bmw under rating the 5.5 0-60 for the 650i like they do all their cars?

Really I would think its a drivers race at this point, if they are both stock.

But you have like 400 lbs less than him and your making like about 30 hp less.

And if you guys do "race", please take it to the track and don't street race. Some people think it is harmless but unfortunately, it has hit home for me, in more than one occasion.

Well, it's still a valid comparison. I hate when people say you can't compare x/y because they are a different price bracket or class of car. The fact is not everyone buys the most expensive car they can possibly afford, and price factored in can say a lot.

That said, you also can't compare two cars on performance stats alone. There is a lot the 6 has that the 335 doesn't to justify its price tag, part of it is probably intangible prestige as well though.

Spend the 3K for a chip and exhaust to hedge your bet before you line them up.

Sounds like your GF is a good catch considering her business partner just got a 650i.

i find your comment childish....so what if the 335i is faster?
seems to me, you're just jealous coz the guy got a more expensive car and you just wanna justify that your car is better by comparing performance
i'll reverse your question...why would you buy a 335i? a 350z, evo or sti can probably hold up to a 335i although it may not win over the 335i..is it worth all the money? yes prestige is worth the money
