E90's and snow
i was watching a video of some guys drifting there e90's in the snow and I couldn't help to think that they must be causing a minute amount of sub-frame damage?

not really unless u hit something on the ground (curb maybe thats hidden)
but losing traction and going a little sideways should harm the suspension too much, but you are putting a bit more stress on the suspension components.....these cars are well tested, i even saw BMW drifting (in snow) an X3 in a video about testing the durability of a bmw....its on bmwusa

Drifting in Snow isn't going to cause any damage unless you hit something in the road that is covered by the snow...
BTW did you still have the summer tires on the car?? Even without the traction control on, you shouldn't have that much of a problem with snow tires.

you probably have your summer tires still on the car... you wont get any traction with those tires...
as people have said, simply drifting in the snow is not going to harm your suspension one bit. Not any more than your day to day driving. Only problem is if you hit something while sliding... |

Go find an empty parking lot and have at it. My friend just killed the Krispy Kream parking lot in his S4.
My car is in for the night.... I would feel really bad if I f-up my car before I hit 100 miles.

drifting in the snow is a good way to learn how to handle your car in an emergency as well. in addition to being fun lol.
if a cop shows up, just tell him you were "practing" "just in case" it worked for me |

I guess crashing would be the worst possible situation.

I tend to put it in DTC mode when messing around in the snow (unless I'm in an empty parking lot or something). All systems off can be pretty scary.

I think I'll keep the traction on in my car, not ready to crash it yet.

i was watching a show on how to drift...and they were using a m3...the dude was drifting all over the track...than he showed how to do a 360 on the highway....he made it look so easy...he was going about 60 mph...he turns the steering hard to the right...quick turn left....gives it gas...pulls the e-brake..puts it back down...does a full 360 at 60mph....and continues going straight at that speed...insane....."so easy"...hahaha..yeah right...

didnt really freak me out and i just regained my control but i imagine how serious a situation can get. i was laughing at myself the whole day after that. that was a stupid mistake. enough of DTC on regular driving days for me.
