Heated mirrors

My heated mirrors are on all the time, has anyone figured out a way to turn them off when not needed? Thanks for any ideas. Car 5 2005 Z4

I believe they turn on/off depending on the ambient temp.
Why do you need them off?

Heated mirrors

Thanks for the reply. I think the dealer told me the mirrors are on all the time. It just bugs me to havethe heat on when it is 65 degrees. Seems to me the life will be shorten alot. I need to verify that in fact the heated mirrors are suppose to go off. Does any body know? Thanks for the replies. Car 5

If you feel the glass, you'll be able to tell if they are on.

The temperature sensor (the same sensor that displays the temperature in the gauge cluster) reports the temperature to the cars modules, which in turn activates the mirrors heating feature. I don't remember the temperature, but at 65 degrees they should not be on.

Heated mirrors

Hi Ron, checked out my mirrors this weekend and it was 80 degrees outside and heated mirrors were on.The glass temperture was 110 degrees. Located the fuse for the passenger side #21 and pulled it and no heat, but you can't remove fuse #8 for the driver side because it controls the heat and mirror adjustment. D0 you know where the sensor is? Do you have a wiring diagram? My car is just out of warranty wouldn't you know it. Thanks for the help. Car 5

Is the temperature accurate that is being displayed in your gauge cluster?

I don't want to dispute what Ron posted but I seem to recall on my 2006 M Roady they're on all the time by design. I'll have to dig a bit to see where that bit of info came from.

heated mirrors

Chris, you might be correct. I remember the dealer telling me that they are on all the time. It just doesn't seem right to heat the mirror when it is 7o degrees. I was hoping to get a wiring diagram and modify it so I can turn off. I will keep researching and thanks for the information. Car 5
