Where to buy Snell 2000 Helmet
Hello I need a snell 2000 rated helmet. Where can I buy one of these? I have seen some Snell m2000 helmets. Is that that same thing? Thanks for the help.

Snell SA2000 helmets are no longer being made and sold. And it'll only be a valid standard for the remainder of the year. SA2000 are for auto applications, M2000 are motorcycle applications. The differences being that SA2000 must be fire-proof AND survive multiple impacts while protecting the mellon, while M2000 are only required to protect for one single impact but the impact force is much MUCH higher I believe.
Why are you looking for Snell 2000 helmets? Snell SA2005 should be accepted everywhere SA2000 is accepted at, and SA2010 standards are just around the corner so SA2005 helmets are going on blow-out soon. Lastly, you do not want to buy helmets sight-unseen. They need to fit and fit right. My old Bieffe Predator was an XL and it was a little on the loose side. My new HJC AR-10 are XXL and it fits a little tight. If you're looking for a place to buy, look for them at local race tracks if SA standard is what's called for, or any motorcycle shop should carry M standards. |

I am looking for those because the race track rules states this " Drivers in all 13.99 or quicker vehicles must wear a helmet meeting Snell 2000 SFI 31.1, 31.2, 41.1, 41.2 specifications" I guess they need to update the rule book So I wouder if a M would be good enough?? Thanks for that relpy to by the way |

What they mean is a Snell M or SA2000 or better. Therefore a SA2005 is what I suggest you look for. As for Mr Hack...dont believe him..he is a dingleberry. Just kidding..he and I are instructors...so we have had many helmets before. If I were you I would get a SA2005 helmet that is on sale. Like Mr. Hack said...dont just buy it off the web...try a helmet on...find out what fits..then buy that. You could try it on locally..and then by the exact helmet from the same manufacturer online. Arai helmets dont fit me at all...they are really made for people with small heads... I personally have a Pyrotect helmet..and prior to that I came from a Bell M2.
If you are riding a motorcycle...get a M2005 helmet..if you are driving a car...get a SA2005 helmet.

I went to vasracingsuits.com they have a shop in Long Island! The owner Vic was a great help and he fitted me properly and gave me some great advice. The prices are not as good as some of the online dealers but made up for it in proper fitting and the ability to try on a few different models.

Again, I would not buy an M2005 helmet for HPDE events in your car...I would get an SA2005..or hold out a couple of months and get a full faced SA2010 helmet. Yes, it is slightly more expensive than the HLC motorcycle cheap helmets you could buy at a motorcycle shop...but how many HEADs do YOU have? I only have one.

Correct, they were open face style (which was our preference anyways) but they were labeled snell 2005 on the inside.

The Snell 2005 label should be preceded by either an SA or an M mark. SA means the helmet meets the standard for automotive racing while M mark indicates Motorcycle use "only."
