ECU Dealer Reflash... needed?

Has it been stated yet whether or not the ECU reflash from the dealer is necessary? I'm planning to get the Xede from Shiv and wasn't sure if I needed to have the reflash before the Xede goes on??

What "ECU reflash" are you talking about? The cold start lumpiness? It's not necessary but will help your cold start if you are experiencing that issue. As for getting the Xede, unless you plan on getting some custom tuning by him it doesn't matter when you get the Xede unit. If you plan on having him tune it for you then I'd get all of the updates out of the way if your car needs them and then have it tuned (although those updates shouldn't effect his tuning by much anyway.)

I'm wondering if I get the Xede, then decide to get the "update" later if it will be an issue. It won't overwrite the Xede tune I'm assuming, but...

Xede doesn't work that way. It's a standalone unit, which CANNOT be overwritten. It doesn't change the ECU (called a DME by BMW for Digital Motor Electronics) programming, it just tells the DME different info from incoming sensor signals.

Go ahead and get the update done. All the cars I've tuned so far have had the update, fwiw. Not that it matters though....
