Cleaning/Repairing DPE R16 Brushed Aluminum
Hey guys,
just picked up a set of brushed aluminum DPE R16s. There are two scuffs on the outer lip, and a scratch on the wheel face. Is there anything I can do myself to at least make the blemishes less obvious? Here is a shot of one of the marks on the lip...the other one is similar: I can get pics of the scratch on the wheel face later today. All three blemishes are on the same wheel, would it be cheaper to just have the wheel professionally refinished? EDIT: Here's a picture of the scratch, this one bugs me the most: --^ I don't think there is anything I can do about this one...thoughts? I am also curious if there are any tools more sophisticated than a q-tip to clean the break dust/dirt out from between and rivets and lip. Here is the whole wheel so u know what I'm talking about: I'm really excited about these wheels and want them to be/stay in pristine condition! EDIT: any other tips for cleaning and maintaining brushed aluminum wheels would be appreciated! Last edited by kreit2; 04-09-2010 at 07:24 PM.. |

Not sure about a DIY on the scuffs, but as far as cleaning the rivets goes. I find it easy to get mine cleaned up with Chemical Guys Grime Reaper. That stuff works wonders on cleaning hard to reach places and all that black build-up on the exhaust tips. Plus it dilutes rather well so it goes a long way bro. Hope that helps! Nice wheels BTW

for cleaning in/around the bolts, you'll want a brush like this Swissvax one:

[QUOTE=kreit2;7095132]---^ Thanks for the suggestion! Can a product like this possibly do any damage?
Well, according to George at detailed image, he said I could use it for my interior stains at a 10:1 ratio, but suggested a less aggresive 303 cleaner since it was interior. Having said that, I'm not sure about all finishes, but he's easy to contact here on the forums, just do a search for detailed image or and he'll pop up and answer any questions you have about cleaners. Quick to respond too!
