Dude, I test drove that car with a gf of mine. I flogged the shit out of it on 295 lol. Her dad's a BMW guy so she ended up with an E90 328 but she really wanted the IS.

very light steering, crappy back seat space, not much fun factor, mod unfriendly. =/ The only thing I like about it is the exterior styling and the comfort features ( like seat cooling ). Other than that, it's got no soul

I bought one after my 135i crapped out. Everything you said above but I am slowly warming up to it. Very please that the car start up every time and not hit limp mode every 6 month. The strong points are good value, lots of standard equipment, reliability, and design, the most easy on the eye sedan out there.
