How many people have a sodium chloride (salt) water softener @ home for washing car? Is this a good idea since there is small amount of salt in that water? Just curious what the detail experts have to say?

I don't think these systems make the treated water any saltier. The salt is used inside the gadget to soften hard minerals in the water, and in doing the the salt is consumed.
I had a neighbor who added a softener to his garden hose spigot specifically to wash the car and it helped a lot with water spotting. |

I understand that the salt is used to soften the water and very little (micron) amount of salt are left in the softer processed water. You cannot even taste it but you know it is there.
I just wanted to get a feel from those who have washed their cars using water from softener and if they experience any sort of rust issue from repeated use.

Put a sample on a dark plate, then leave it out to dry in the sun. That will show you what is being left on your car, and you can decide from there.
