how do you remove trim from around ac controls?

i want to install my passport hard wire kit somewhere into the trim around the ac controls. i am thinking of either putting it on the left side, or in the weird grilled area right below the fan speed buttons. (what is that piece, anyway?)

any idea how to remove these pieces?

also, once removed, will there be room to get wiring to the back of the dash, or will it be closed off from stuff?

thanks!

The "grilled area" is the air grill for the temperature sensor, so you don't want to mess with that...

These parts of the interior is standard 3-series e90, so there are many diy-guides. Check this one for example:

The button yes. But the hole? Hmmmm. As long as the OP is happy. I would not have attempted that as I wouldn't be satisfied with anything not looking factory, meaning that even if the hole was perfectly made, it'd still look completely out of place, but that's just me.

Mods like that need to be installed out of sight, even if it's just for resale purposes. Take care.
