Lightbulb Manual in M3 compared to non-M3

I currently have a E90 325i 6MT. This vehicle was designed for economy not performance. Hence in the manual, the gear ratio's are much taller to encourage early gear changes. also, the clutch had a delay valve installed (until i removed it) which was supposd to gently engage the clutch for smoother gear changes.

now i am almost certain that i will order a manual M3, i am curious if anyone has any experience in directly comparing the transmission of a manual non-M3 E90/92/93 with a manual M3 E90/92/93.

I have read on forums that the gear ratios are different, the final drive ratio is different, and the clutch action is more direct. all this would lead to a more pleasant driving experience for the spirited manual driver.

it would be great if someone could provide an evaluation of the differences between the two.

I have an E90 M3 6MT, lets compare it to a Mini CooperS;
the minis transmissions was smooth and easy. For long drivers it nailed it.
But w/t the M3 transmissions it's hard to drive but rewarding. If I'd do it all over again i'd get the DCT b/c it's fast and more livable.. I can never drive my parents or GF in my car b/c it get really annoying. Only I enjoy it.

My suggestion if it's an everyday car and you want to be fast get the DCT.
-Still I love my M3 but like I said If i'd do it over again it would be the DCT; + they fixed all the issues.

I had a 2007 E90 328i and now a 2010 E92 M3. I would say the MTs are similar in feel and clutch action. The 328i but have been a little more forgiving but only a little. The 6MT in the M3 is a very easy MT to drive IMO. WAY, WAY better than the 6MT in my last car, an Infiniti G37S.

Garage List
Not sure what the regular E90 is like but the M3 6MT is geared to hit 320kph in 6th at redline...Expect 2700rpm on the freeway.

The gearbox is identical between the M3 and 135/335 - not sure about the other 3xx models.

The M3 does however have a shorter final drive ratio than the 335 (3.85 in the MT M3 vs 3.08 in the 135/335)...
