Noisey Idle/Temp Gauge
Hey people. I'm new to this post and I just picked up my 335 two weeks ago. It has about 500 miles on it. Is the loud idle on starting up normal? It's much louder than my friends' 330 and 530xi. Is it just the turbo?
I've also noticed the oil temp gauge goes up to 3/4's of the range at times (to the right). Is that normal? Thanks for any feedback. |

Keep an eye on the temp gauge, better yet, go drive you car really hard and see if it measures differently.
BTW, a more usefull comment instead of "3/4 of the range" would be the actuall temp, BMW did put numbers and ticks there for you to figure it out.

3/4 of the way or slightly past the mid-range sounds normal to me, that's about where mine's at after driving for 10-15+ mins.
Idle sounds normal too if it's just at start up and the car hasn't been on long. I hear mine but it's not too loud, just loud enough for me to know it's up and running but for the most part the engine's smooth and deceptively quiet till you start pushing it. Near the 1200 mile break-in mark mine got noticeably louder than when it was new but that is normal.

Thanks guys. By the way, I drove it hard (past 100mph) and normal and the temp stays within midpoint (210) and 3/4, so its reassuring to hear that's normal. I don't know the exact figure but I think most people who have the car will know what I mean by 3/4 since the gauge goes out to 300.
The noise however, is undetectable from inside the cabin. The car is drop dead gorgeous to look at so I'm not complaining. Its my first time not only owning a bimmer but even driving in a car with a turbo, so its all new. Its also a great feeling to sit behind the tints and see people slowing down to look at it.....caz I'm one of the first in my area. I will post pics soon. |

For a US spec temp gauge it is normal to be past 1/2 way. If they had converted the C to F properly from the European, Canadian (rest of the normal world) then yours would run just below 1/2 or at 1/2 like ours do!!
