E92 Coupe The Next Big Thing?
Before I bought my E92 coupe, I owned and still own a 2003 GTI. It is slammed to the ground with crazy poke. Needless-to-say, the car is an eye catcher. No matter how old/young, people always ask me about the car. The interior is fully two tone suede blah blah blah. I guess when I drive the car, I now expect to get that sort of attention.
This all leads me to my point. I bought my Montego Blue E92 Coupe as a daily driver. It is the first BMW I have ever driven and owned. It is an amazing experience everytime I press the button to turn on the car. Well this morning as I drove to my garage (near the train I take to work), I was making a turn onto a side street. As I made the turn, I saw two kids playing catch before they went to school. The moment they saw my car, they dropped everything and just looked and pointed. The expression on their face was priceless. This isn't the first time it has happened but the expressions I saw this morning were: - I think the E92 lines and smooth sleek body are just going to KILL anything that is coming out for the price range. I live in NYC - the city where you see almost any car on the street on a regular basis Lambos, Ferrari, Maybach, etc. - I'm glad with my E92 Coupe. :rocks: I feel that the coupe is going to make this a turn around year with large increase in sales for BMW. |

lol--that's awesome. I had a similar experience with my Jet Black E92 the first day I had it. I was in the drive-thru in McDonald's (all the driving had worked up an appetite) and a couple of high school kids were passing by--their jaws were open as they went by, and they actually made another loop around so they could see it again. It was so cool--the car is beautiful, and i am sure all of us will continue to get "looks".

I think BMW finally did the right thing in making the 3 series coupe visually distinguishable from the sedan. With the exception of the M3, the 3 series coupe was always a disappointment for me. The 3 series sedan was always among the most sporty of compact sedans, but the coupe usually looked like a sedan with 2 doors missing (sort of the opposite of the 4 door coupe effect used for the Mercedes CLS).
I will probably stick with my sedan since I will be a father soon, but I REALLY like the styling of the E92. With the right wheels, its both aggressive and classy. Its a car that should remain stylish for many years to come.

The new coupe is clearly a design departure from the sedan and that is a breath of fresh air. With the e36 and e46 it was hard to tell sometimes when u were looking from the rear. Even though the sedan did sit higher in most cases. It's hard to believe that the e90 sedan is wider than the e92 coupe which is a first.

+1 I completely agree 100% with your post. e46 coupe DOES look like the sedan counterpart, but with less doors. What's the point in that? It SHOULD look distinct, aside from minor stuff like frameless doors and different bumpers. I'm also glad BMW made them look drastically different. I hope the e90ers don't take too much offense, but I honestly don't think I would have bought the 335i in ANY flavor if they didn't offer something that looked different from the current e90s. |

It has happened to me as well. Probably about 4 times now. One guy on I-287 gave the thumbs up when I was next to him. Great feeling!

I dropped my car off to have the windows tinted... when I returned to pick it up there were several people inspecting the car, including the tinter... the reactions were all the same, to enthusiastic thumbs up.

infiniti claims 306bhp on the 07 version, but what they fail to mention is 263 lb/ft torque. respectable, but the infiniti's torque curve also probably peaks at 5000rpm, so you need to be constantly revving/downshifting to get in the meat of your powerband. the bimmer has more power and its available everywhere. torque down low, equal amount of horsepower up high. thats just at the crank. with mods the 335i should be significantly faster because bmw's drivetrain is incredibly effecient at getting power to the wheels with as little friction as possible. that is where infiniti falls short. the bimmer's setup allows for quicker acceleration without even having to downshift in most situations. ideal for daily driving, so i expect to see alot of "just got beat by a 335i" by infiniti owners, especially once the current 335 guys start modding, which i'm sure alot of you are interested in. regardless i have alot of respect for the g35 but i will be happy when our 335 guys put em in their place. a turbo back exhaust and an agressive ecu tune on 93 octane is enough for a 335 to put buslengths on the 07 g35. 08 might be a different story, but we'll see. |
