Oil Level/Service Indicator

I have 13,500 mile on a 1 year old 330xi. The "miles to service" counter says 6,000 to next service. Can I bring in earlier than that given that car recently turned 1 or do I need to wait? Do they reset the counter even if it hasn't counted down to zero?

Also, I recently began looking at the oil level on the OBC and noticed it continues to change i.e. one day, it is half full, today quarter, last week 3/4...anyone else experience this? Should I be adding any oil? Thanks.

I believe you get one free oil change per year, regardless of your oil service indicator... not sure if they'll reset or not, heard mixed answers to that one. But if they don't then you'll get another one for free at your service date. Maybe you can ask them not to reset it... do a search! It's been discussed before.

On my E46 I paid for every second oil change (had it changed every 7500) and made sure they did not reset the counter on the intermediate changes. I just couldnt fathom 15K miles on the same oil.

They should not reset the timer. And right, you get a free oil change every year regardless of anything else. But my dealer told me that if you are almost close to service according to the service indicator, then you are not eligible. But then I am in Canada and the US may have different policies.
