Car & Driver Mag got 4.8 sec. 0-60mph for the 335i MT Sedan and a Businessweek.com reviewer also got 4.8 sec. 0-60mph for the 335i AT Coupe.

An exerpt from the Businessweek.com article...

For starters, this new BMW coupe is significantly faster than BMW rates it. The company says the 335i will accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds with an automatic transmission and 5.3 seconds with a stick shift. Don't believe it. I easily got my test 335i with an automatic to do the trick several times in under 5 seconds. My fastest time was a blazing 4.8 seconds. That's four ticks faster than my best time in the Lexus IS 350 and two ticks faster than my best time in a Chevy Corvette with an automatic transmission (see BusinessWeek.com, 7/6/06, "The No-Sweat 'Vette").

Handling is also marvelous. This car feels very tight. That's partly because the frame on both the 335i Coupe and the sedan is 25% more rigid than on the models they are replacing. The sports suspension also has been upgraded. For the first time, the 3 Series coupe now comes with the double-pivot front suspension that's standard on more expensive BMW models. The coupe also gets the more agile five-link rear suspension that already comes standard on 3 Series sedans and station wagons.

If you're not into manual transmissions, you can still have a blast driving the car. If you let the car do the shifting itself, the Steptronic transmission is tuned to emulate the shifting pattern of an experienced driver using a stick shift. The car sounds and feels very much like a manual transmission would as it goes through its paces on its own.

It was confirmed that the E90 335i was clocked at 4.8 (6mt) and the

E92 335i was clocked at 4.9 (auto). Think it was car and driver...

Imagine what the numbers are going to be if they update the 335i's engine

in mid '07!!!!

Why would BMW update the 335 engine after 6-8 months? Have I missed a rumor somewhere? My guess is BMW will save any engine bumps in the 335 until the mid-model refresh in a couple years. In the meantime the 335 will continue to sell well and any possible kinks will be worked out.

they will probably continue to tweak the software, and maybe offer a "performance software" option at some dealers, possibly through dinan... IMHO... 4.8 is plenty fast for me... for now...

FWIW... the 335i's auto tranny ROCKS... i love it... i was torn between auto and manual, and I am glad i chose the auto... no regrets.

Talking 2007 BMW 335i Sedan

Here is the article from Car & Driver:

What’s Better Than Outstanding? We hit 60 mph in 4.8 seconds with the latest 3-series.
http://www.caranddriver.com/shortroa...35i-sedan.html

Did someone say ... Jet?

The problem is that if you get a 335i 0-60 in 4.8 seconds the car will overheat and/or blow up.

Really or you're pulling our legs?

Mine is still under a very respectful and strictly followed recommended Break-In (Only 500Km).

yeah, you missed the rumor... It was on the one of the thread topic's

about 2-3 days ago. Supposedly, the 335i engine was made for 380hp..

and BMW is going to tune it up in mid '07

6.2s is the published figure. I was wondering if the 0-60 is any better in reality than what BMW publish? I.e. has anyone tested it?

I'm not sure who started it but it looks like one of my turbos let go last night (in the S4). I hope the 335i doesn't have it's own turbo lady!

I think the overheating rumor started from a press event at a track where after a few hot laps, the cars would overheat and go into limp mode. Same thing happened to the Mazda Speed 6. Time will tell how the 335i reacts to being chipped.

4.8 sec means nothing if you are stuck in traffic. on the other hand, 4.8 sec on a track is awesome.
