Question E92 335i Rough Idle - AC or engine?

Over the past couple of weeks I've notice that my E92 335i idles roughly at times, making much more noise than I'd expect it to. At first I attributed this to some cold-weather roughness, but it seems to persist even after the car has heated up. This morning I turned off the radio to hear it better, then turned off the AC, and it was amazing how quiet it became. I should have tried this earlier, but it never occured to me that the AC could be the culprit.

I'm not averse to taking it to the dealer, but would like to know if anyone else is experiencing this type of roughness at idle. On a related note, has anyone confirmed whether the reflash for roughness really does reduce the power? I don't want the dealer screwing up the power of this car!

LOL...I'm taking my car to switch to winter tires and even doing that I think Ill put a big sign on the dash that says "NO ECU Flash PLS, I enjoy my power and lack of turbo lag!"

To the OP: I've experience vibrations at rest through the steering wheel and gear shifter although I noticed the RPMs never move. I've always had AC on because I use Auto setting that keeps it on. I will try it off and see if this eliminates the "roughness". Its probably normal??

idle roughly that you can see on the tach? or just that you can "feel" the idle... I can feel my car idle throught the steering wheel also, but it idles evenly

It's not anything you can see on the tach, which is rock-steady. It's a general roughness/vibration that I can hear and feel in the car. Sort of like an electrical hum. It's mainly noticeable when I'm at a stoplight or otherwise sitting still in the car, and it's annoying because the car is otherwise relatively quiet and smooth. I haven't felt anything like this in other sporty and sports cars, including several Porsches.

I get an ocassional roughness at idle with my E92. Not that it is goign to stall but at ocassion a blip of hte tach in the 500-100 range... I was wondering if I should look into geting it checked.....

also...

anyone get a strange rumble in their E92 as it shuts down... lick a dull low rattle as the car powers down?

With my car, if the idle at the lower speed (I think 600 rpm's) is too rough then the computer bumps up the rpm's to about 800 and it smooths out. It does this once and a while. Usually it runs fine most times at the lower rpm at idle.

bmwmike...Totally OT, but what more news do you have about the ECU update you got, did they have a look at the car again and have they done anything to improve it??
