Office Story: 330i now a low end model? Funny
I work in an office with some very cheap people. They almost all make more money than me but they are obsessed with saving for the future and not enjoying the present. So, since I showed up at work in August with my new 330i the jealousy has been prevelant.
Then this week one of the managers purposely spoke out really loudly so everyone could hear and said so I guess your 330i is just an average lower end model now that the 335i is out. I immediately told him I would race him for his car (he drives an Accord). There was no response except others laughing at him |

Like I've said before, I'm really glad to be getting the 335, it's my first BMW. I don't have anything against 325's which are the entry-level E90 (now 328), nor am I jealous of M3's or 530's, and so on. My favorite is the M5, but c'mon now, that's a whole other league, right? Those guys tend to be much older, and also in a different financial situation. I may be about to experience what you have...but we're all adults, right? I'll live. A 58 yr. old guy in the office told me that I have it all, beautiful g/f, awesome car on the way, good job, and right now the freedom of also being single. He was really admiring my situation. Rather than gloat, it made me appreciate the things around me....my .02. |

I know how you feel. I've learned not to tell people at work what you drive. Jealousy comes out.

Exactly, the entire 3 series is a low cost entry level opportunity to a prestiege brand

I'm extremely happy with my "Entry Level" 325i. The fact is it's a quality car, faster and looks better then 90% of the cars on the road. I say ignore him because you drive "The Ultimate Driving machine"

My E90's been the low end model in my house for months.
Who cares what others think? Just be happy knowing that you get to drive one of the best cars in the world regardless of the model number on the trunk. Most people can't even tell the difference between a 325/328/330/335 sedan anyway. |

That would have been the best comeback:
"Actually, the entry level model for a 3 Series is the 318, but they don't bring that one here. In Europe, it competes more with the 4 Cylinder Japanese cars... and that's definitely not BMW's competition in the U.S. with the 330." |

The fact that you had a comeback at all shows how emotionally immature you are IMO

So I conclude that there is nothing special about being able to drive a 3 series in the US Besides you spend the same kind of money on a 325 as a Honda minivan!

It's all relative. 3 series ='s low end model for BMW. BMW = high-end manufactuer. A BMW can never, in a million billion years, be compared to something like a Honda. They are in two completely different classes. What you should have said is "Gee, so you consider a $40,000 car low-end? Wow, then your $18,000 Accord must be like, what, dirt-"take a shit on it"-end?"

Better to say absolutely nothing while someone takes jabs at you? While surrounded by co-workers? What a wussy solution. As long as its an intelligent retort, there's nothing "emotionally immature" about it. |

Average cost of a vehicle sold in the US today is ~$29k. 3-series are great cars but they are no top end/unique machine. They sell over half a million of these things worldwide each year and accounts for 35-40% of total BMW sales.
