Is this bad for the car?
hi new to these forums so im not sure if this is the right place, but i am wondering if driving with my car in DS mode(its an auto) all the time has some negative effects on my car?
problems other than lowering mpg? |

As a (possibly dumb?) rule, I never rev the engine beyond 2.5k before the oil reaches at least 80 degrees. After that 3k-3.5k is ok, once the oil temperature is around 90-100, IŽll gradually rev it to 4-5k and beyond. |

Its harmful to run the engine higer than 4.000rpm s before it reaches the ideal working temperature...
so be patient and drive like a good christian till the engine gets warm.... or get up 5mins earlier before work and start your engine to heat it up... then you can safely go to hyperspace :P

Actually I thought the "get up early and start your car" was bad? Something about circulating the cold oil since it doesn't warm up as fast if u are driving it w/ low revs.

I think "starting and staying parked while the engine is cold" is what you're thinking of, Sillent Killer. You're supposed to drive off relatively soon after starting to warm up the engine. I keep revs under 4K or so until the engine is warmed up, though I don't know if that's strictly required.

Keep in mind, citkane, we 330 driver's don't HAVE an oil temp guage.
And for us, our manual specifically says NOT to start the car and let it idle to warm up. It says start driving immediately after you've started the car. Cold oil is not the problem (in most climates) with cold engine/high revs... it's the lack of circulation. If your car has been sitting more than just overnight, all the oil has drained back to the sump, and parts are not as lubricated as they should be. Cold oil will mostly just keep an engine revving a little slower, since the thicker viscosity decreases all the tolerances in the engine. Keep in mind, I'm referring to climates like CA. not Canada. It won't hurt anything, but you will get poorer gas mileage. I use mine when I'm in the mood for it, but mostly keep it off for better economy.
