Piano black vs. black trim?

Anybody know the difference between the two? Is Piano glossy, black is not?

I've only seen pictures of piano black. If someone else has pictures of both, that'd be awesome. Thanks.

Piano black looks just like a black piano key, deep glossy black.

There's only one black interior trim that I am aware of, BMW call it High Gloss Black here in the UK and Piano Black in the US it would appear, as it is a similar finish to the French lacquer applied to the body of a Piano.

Actually, black piano keys aren't glossy, but the piano itself (depending on the brand) will usually have a glossy finish. I know cuz I used to take piano lessons (incidentally) in Allentown, PA, where you're from

I'm just curious what black trim looks like because the dealer DOES have black trim available in the US (just not Piano Black trim, at least that I can find so far).

Thanks.

They are not the same. This had been cleared up a while back but I can't find the exact thread.

Piano Black apparently receives more coats of lacquer and is a deeper richer looking finish. It is part of the Individual Program.

High Gloss Black can be ordered from a BMW parts department in the USA. I looked into it. Total price was around $700 for all pieces.

Piano Black is part of the Individual Program and can not be ordered in the USA at time of production or through the parts department, I checked. You have to have a VIN # from an Individual car to order Individual Program parts.

I was able to check the prices though for Piano Black for an E60 just out of curiosity and it was approx $1200 for all pieces. It is considerably more expensive than High Gloss Black.
