BMW club day at PIR

I am interested in a track day at PIR. I saw that BMW club has a track day end of March. Do I need to join a BMW club to attend that event? ACA? CCA? Any advice or contact info would be appreciated.

Up in Seattle the Puget Sound club requires you to be an active member in the BMW CCA in order to go on the big boy track...it's only $50/year to join. The monthly Roundel magazine makes the 50/year well worth it...not to mention the other benis (track time, discounts, etc).

You should check w/the local Portland club, but my guess would be they operate similarly to the Puget Sound club and will require you to be a member.

You would need to be either a CCA or ACA member to participate from what I understand. That track day is put on by the ACA but they have always allowed CCA members just the same.

The Oregon region CCA club was formed just a few weeks ago and thus was not able to put on a high performance drivers education day this year. We will be gauging interest and demand and possibly begin track days in 2011.

In addition the Alpha Romeoclub has extended an invitation to CCA members to participate in their track days.

Here are a few websites:

www.bmwcca.org
www.bmworegoncca.com
www.bmwacaportland.com

As mentioned above the $48 per year is well worth the CCA membership:
Roundel magazine is great
15% or so discount on parts
$500 to $1500 back on new and CPO from BMW NA

I joined the BMW CCA and registered for the Mar 29 BMW club track day at PIR.

Next question: Which helmet should I get??

It needs to be a snell 2005 or newer.

I talked to a track and race friend that suggested:

Competition Motorsports

2242 N Williams Ave.
Portland, OR 97227 – 1934

Great. I looked at their website. I will go checkout some helmets there for fitting purposes.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but does anyone know if any of the track days held at PIR allow convertibles?

The rules for the various clubs probably mirror Portland BMW Club.

From their FAQ "Open cars require roll bars (or approved factory roll-over protection) and eye protection."

http://www.portlandbmwclub.com/
Look under the activities link

I believe BMWCCA does not allow. On the other hand I'm pretty certain I saw convertibles (s2k, boxter) in PCA events. That being said, I didn't inspect the cars. I believe there is a roll bar requirement at the least. There could be other requirements.

BMWCCA puget sound: www.bmwpugetsound.com
PCA puget sound: www.pnwr.org

I believe Audi club has less strict rules.
