Busted Left front Strut?

Had the car in at BMW (2009 328xi coupe) and had a list of things I wanted looked at.
One was that my car, on occassion, when making a slight left turn feels like it wants to pull left and only after a slight right turn does the pull go away.

I also had bubbles in both my left tires... (Thank GOD I got the tire insurance!)

Hassel BMW is saying that my left front strut is damaged and needs replacing!
And it's not covered!! $600 and change~

Now, I do drive in NYC and have hit my share of potholes. But is it possible to hit a pot hole and damage a strut while not blowing out the tire or cracking the rim? And would there be other damage?

I am just concerned cause I'm wondering if they are trying to recoupe some of the cost that they have already incurred by courtesy cars, etc...

Thanks
Always

Its a possibility that the pothole could have caused the strut problem
