So you think there will be no new releases in 2010/2011 in the 3 Series ranks?

Your estimate is consistent with previous generations (7-8 years per generation).

Yep, that's the typical lifespan for the generation of a BMW model, and most other makes for that matter. As far as other models in the pipeline for the E9 3er generation I'd say you can look forward to the possibility of the following; M3 CSL and ZPP editions.

I hope they don't release the M3 too early, but late fall 2007 so that e92 335 enjoy their cars longer. I'll be happy w/ the M3 for 7 years without problem. I'll look at M3 with SMG, premium, sport and navi...those options will probably be $8k-$10k more. Hopefully, I can get it for ~$65k...

So, I take it you no longer enjoy your 330i simply because the 335 has come out. I'm not into keeping up with the Joneses and enjoy each and every minute I'm in my 330i. I intend to keep it for at least four years.

I think he's right. 2010, replacement of a new 3 series is too soon. Most of the time there's 7 to 9 years between a model-change not 5.

A lot of manufacturers are moving to a 4 year model cycle - eventually if they keep doing this BMW will have to follow suit, it's too hard to keep up with competition if your model cycle is 3 years longer.

BMW doesn't follow trends or other manufacturers... Even a E46 looks fresh compared to the competition.

On the M3 forum there is a strong believe that the E92 M3 will show up at the Geneva Automobil Show early March 2007, summer 2007 will be the selling date.......................................

The "real deal" will be Geneva, this according to Jussie ( see forum) don`t know it`s true, but he seems to have some seriously reliable information!!

BMW, like every manufacturer, responds to competition - if they didn't the 335i wouldn't exist. It has nothing to do with looking fresh, it has to do with performance and technology; I own a 330xi, it's a great car but even at only 4 years old it's starting to fall behind in tech features, and of course in terms of entry level sport-sedans it's way back in performance, which is why there is the e90/e92. If Lexus/Infiniti/Acura etc keep releasing new, more powerful, more technology filled models every 4 years BMW's going to have to shorten their lifecycle or continue to "upgrade significantly" mid-cycle, ala the ZHP, etc.

Doubt it, they always like showing a "concept" first these days

You're right about that. BMW is also updating their technical specs during the life of one model, like any company else. Usually they come with a facelift halfway their life. The facelift is usually a cosmetic but also a technical one. But the model itself doesn't change (look for example to the recently facelifted X3: little cosmetic surgery and complete enginechange). So a facelift isn't a modelchange.
Japanese carmakers do change their designs more often. But their design aren't as timeless as ones from European carmakers. Audi/Mercedes/Volvo/Volkswagen and a lot of other carmakers over here are on a lifecycle of about 7 to 9 years as I mentioned before.

And I`m glad they do make cars that run for 7-9 years. With Japanese car makers it`s a fact that after 3 years you`ll drive an old one, cause the new one has just come out.........................

is BMW the only car company that does this..........just curious
no audi does it too and so does porsche and mercedes and lexus and VW and Ford and Chevy and Infiniti and Mazda and Honda and Acura. SO I would say they are not the only ones.
