Squeaky Clutch Pedal

Have had a squeak coming from the engine bay when depressing the clutch pedal for a while. It went into today for it's MOT and to have a look at the clutch and a few other niggles. They have just rung to say the gearbox has to come out to find out what the problem is. There hasn't been any problems with the gearchange or performance problems.......wonder what it could be?

He will be suitably punished if this is the case.

Make sure that, if they take out the gearbox but don't find anything, they don't try to charge you for the labour.

I had this issue then they were about to investigate my 330d jumping out of gear at low speed but this could be because they feared the clutch was screwed which obviously isn't covered under warranty and therefore I'd be liable.

Just double-check to be sure before they take the gearbox out.

Sounds like it could be a faulty release bearing..

Mine had a squeak as the pedal was depressed, but it was the return spring on the clutch pedal squeaking (in the footwell on the pedal hinge)

I quick spray of WD40 sorted that.

I thought it would be something simple, that's why I was a little worried when the wife told me the gearbox was coming out.

Will see what the morning brings.

The wife dealt with them so it will be her fault if she didn't ask the correct questions.

I seem to remember that a new clutch is a 'gearbox out' job.

Yeh, just thought I would have had poor gear changes and the like. It will still drive off in third with no gas, just releasing the clutch pedal.

I got a new clutch & gearbox 2 weeks before the warranty expired - good feeling isn't it

What was the problem with it. Obviously clutch wear isn't covered so must have been an external factor .

Glad you got it sorted.

My wife has spoken to them and she didn't ask why it happened but i'll find out tomorrow. I was a bit shocked, but perhaps there's some money to be made in warranty work.
