This was a worry for me when I got mine. But in the end I just had to think how many times I'd actually need it and it's not often.

I nearly came unstuck this weekend though with a curtain pole but in the end I managed to get it on the back seats.

The Xmas tree will be the next issue I reckon but suppose I'll just have to get a small one and put it on the back seats too....but thats a while away yet!

But it should be standard IMO.

Mate - you live in London - buy a tree from the local shops and carry the thing home.

Alledgedly the chassis is stiffer WITHOUT folding seats as you have a solid bulkhead in its place which acts as a stiffening cross member...

I was shocked that the £30k M Sport E90 I had as a courtesy car had no folding seat - I was about to stick my surfboard in it, went to fold the seat and it wouldn't!!

Managed to squeeze it in anyway...

Seems to be a feature for BMW / Audi, not sure about the other "premium" German marques.

Spec'd it on my old E46 saloon. You might only need it a couple of times, but it's a pain in the arse when you do and don't have it.

A mate of mine bought an E90, couldn't get the seats down so nipped into the dealer to ask how it was done, the reply was "if you wanted folding seats you should have got a Mondeo Sir"!!!

He ended up changing his 3 series for a 1 series as he found the space more useable with a little one and a dog.

I'd have fallen into this trap if he'd not warned me so I waited and found a used E90 with this specced. I found it very useful; Christmas Tree/Family Holiday/Long Purchases.

Should be standard I reckon . No such worries with the X3 .
