Awaiting reply. If it's what I think, I'll take it.

BTW, does anyone know how much BMW charges for install on a steering wheel? Thanks.

The BMW install guide says it should take 1.5 hours to install (roughly 200 bucks) however some dealerships think they need to program the new SZL so they will quote you anywhere from 4-6 total hours.

From my research, the SZL does not need to be programmed if you have the sport package - so it should be the 1.5 hours.

Thanks for the advice. I guess that is why some call them the stealerships. 4-6 hours??!?!?!

I know you guys are "experts" in this field, so do you need to reprogram? I just spoke to my SA and he said that it may take 1-1.5 hours OR it may take 3 hours IF they need to reprogram!?!? I am no expert in this area, so I just don't know the answer. I want it to be installed properly to take advantage of this wheel's features, but don't want to drop $300-400 just to install it.

Anyone else with experience installing this wheel?

The dealer stated the same thing to install mine for the main reason that I have iDrive.

But there is a shop close to me (Bimmersport) that can program and install for a lot less. Dealer wants $500CND and Bimmersport is $160CND. Big difference!

Why am I not surprised I am hoping Tom from EAS can help me out....Tom??? I have iDrive as well.

But, a reprogram was necessary then?

Coding is not required. Here is the install pdf:

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=159983

Section 6 specifically says coding not required. Hope that helps everyone whose bringing it to the stealer to install.

See that's the problem I am having.

I've called 4 dealerships and talked to 10 different SA's. Not one of them has the same story.

EAS, Tischer, Turner Motorsports, and a dozen install threads on the m3 forum and this forum says no programming is necessary.

But local SA's tell me it will require 'SZL Programming' but I can tell they don't have much experience by all the different quotes and the lack of information I'm given.

I've sent each SA I've talked to that install PDF .. their response is "I'm not sure, I'm just telling you what my shop foreman told me. It's going to need programming"

It's frustrating. I know. I tend to believe EAS and Tischer...but it's ultimately up to the dealership IF they want to charge you that reprgram fee. Now, IF it's something that HAS to be done, then that's something I have to consider before purchasing this wheel. BUT if it isnt, then I of course don't want to pay an extra 1.5 of labor for a reprogram.

I am pretty sure that as log as you have a sport package you dont need the car to be programmed. I also have limited information on this so dont take my word on it. I have seen people do the instal themselves and they didnt need to code it.

Here is a DIY: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ht=performance
