Avoiding a road block

On my TomTom, if I come across an obstruction I can select a road block feature and it will bypass just that part of the route.

Is there a way of doing this on the Built-in nav?

I've looked in the manual and it's not massively clear!

You have different route options, shortest, fastest, etc.. You can use this to select a different route. Is this what you mean.

Not really.

Lets say I'm driving a long and there is a tree in the road and I can't go past. I want to tell the sat nav that the there is a blockage and for it to take me round it, and then back onto the original route....

Why not just attempt to drive around it and then re-plot your route from that point? Same affect I think.

Cause the dozy satnav will tell you to 'make a legal u-turn'

If you have dynamic route selected and the road block is on the TMS database, then it will divert you, otherwise there is no way to do this.

OK, thanks.

Another example - got to the motorway entry slip road but it was closed so needed to find the next entrance. Didn't have a clue where I was and yes, the woman kept wanting me to turn round!

In the end I just told it to avoid motorways and I went home another way.

Oh well, suppose you cant have everything.

You can select alternate route for the next n miles... I have done it a few times but off the top of my head I couldnt tell you exactly how to do it. Sit me in front of the nav and I can find it. I'll have a look on the way home tonight, I'm sure there will be some kind of hold up on the M62 !!!

Interesting - I know where alt route is, but didn't know about the "x" miles, thing - will have a look!

It makes you realise just how good TomTom is.... I'm don't know why you don't see built in units running TomTom - I think it would be a good selling point.

old system you punch back to the menu, scroll across and hit detour or something like that. I keep forgetting and then stumbling across it and thinking, "that's neat, must remember it."

LCI stuff.... you're on your own.

I think they hide it 'cos the dynamic routing is supposed to work it all out for you.

Ok on the old nav, as I've got you need to be on the options screen where you select destination, route criteria and view. It's the line above the view option and scroll right there is an option for new route, you then enter the number of miles. I've got some pics so will post when I'm on my pc.
