Setting confirmation signals on E92 (locking and unlocking)

No RTFM responses please as I am looking at the FM right in front of me as I type this (page 20 to be exact).

On my new E92 335i, I do not see the option that allows me to select a "acoustic signal" to confirm the locking and unlocking via the key fob when I program the fob via the turn indicator stalk. I only have the option of having the lights flash me. Does this acoustic signal require the alarm (which I do not have)?

Can anyone let me know if they have this option avaiable to them on the E92? I really miss not having the car bark at me when I lock it remotely.

You have to install the OEM alarm to get audible lock/unlock confirmation. The manual is vague on this point. Get the alarm, have it installed and dealer activated and you will have the option of audible confirmation.

It can be disabled for either locking or unlocking. Here's non-IDrive guide.

Wow...no alarm?

I guess I just assumed an alarm/security system was standard on a vehicle in this class. That blows me away that there isn't one.

I need to get on this right away. Anyone had an OEM alarm installed and how much did it cost?

Thanks!

So I'm still trying to figure what is the point of an alarm on this car. Is it just to get the acoustic signal and the blinking clown nose? I mean you can't jimmy the door so the only way in is to break the glass then good luck trying to start it. Any pro would probably be able to bypass the alarm and steal the car anyways. As for smash and grab with or without an alarm they are still going to break the glass and grab what they want. So what am I missing?

you dont really need the alarm, unless you want noise... the car has so many silent security features, its not going do anything but make noise.

+1, even if the alarm goes off, no one cares, because we're so used to sensitive car alarms going off

Agreed, this addition is mainly for the audible siren. Understand your points. Although mostly an annoyance to people, the audible siren does come in handy. Especially on an BMW, where the siren is very loud. IMO this simply should be standard in a $47K car. My X5 came standard with an alarm. Why is it optional on a top end 3 series?

I like the audible feedback when locking/unlocking doors. If I have my car parked outside my house, friends house, etc, a siren would definitely tip me off to go investigate. I had my stero stlen in the past while at my friend's house. A siren would have prevented the theft.

Same thing when your car is being towed and you are within an earshot. The panic feature could also be very usable or nice to have (especially for my wife). Finally, I have more than once used my remote & alarm in the past to locate my car in a crowded parking lot. Don't get me wrong, its not a deal breaker, just annoying and should be included in a high end car.

Btw, if anybody is curious, called the dealer. An OEM alarm installed with tax is $525.00
