Are there any problems with reps?

I had an RFT adventure resulting in a potential £200 bill from my stealer.

Because of this, I took the descision to put new Falkens (17") on, all round.

I must say, they have transformed the ride.

Only problem is, paying for these has wrecked my budget for the 18"s Im really after.

It looks like the only way Im now going to get some 18"s is to buy reps in the future.

Therefore, the question is:

Are there any drawbacks to buying reps?

I know they are heavier, but is that much of an issue? They are 1/2 the price of originals, but are they twice as bad?

Your thoughts appreciated!

I don't think there is any issue with reps I've had a set of AMG reps before without fault. Just get decent tyres and not the crap a lot of places fit as standard

The only problem you will get with rep, lacquer peeling off very quick.
I just got rid off 16" wheels with RFT, and fitted 18" m3 reps wheels with with 225/40 tyres. Ride quality improved, MPG improved, with RFT around town i was getting 24mpg, now same journey's and trip computer shows 29-30mpg.

Why would you spend thousands of pounds on a quality motor only to put inferior wheels on it? I don't get it...., stick with what you already have or just save up for a while longer to get the real mccoy.

Not half the price - one quarter the price of OE BMW wheels!!!

My 18"x8J MV3 reps are £300 for 4, try £1200+ for OE BMW MV3s for example. The finish new is brilliant, but if it doesn't last i'l just get them refinished properly (as they're for winters they'll be off in the summer) then they'll be as good as OE...

Your better off getting the reps with no tyres and sorting your own tyres - the ones the wheel place try and flog you will be shite.

Also the centre caps and M stickers with reps are crap, just buy some OE ones from the dealer for a few quid, makes all the difference....

theres no difference if you curb a £3000 set of wheels or a £500 set of wheels some of the reps made now are suberb and no heavier than standard, i bought a set of bbs lm reps for the z4 for under £500 from sorted-alloys and they are faultless

Cheers for the comments.
It looks like 99% are in favour of reps, so once funding allows, I will be going for them.
Guess the sensible thing will be plenty of alloy wax and paint sealant to keep the corrosive brake dust off the lacquer!

I was at my main dealer recently and looked at BMW performance wheel and tyre package for £2640.00 I could buy three sets of my wheels complete with tyres and still have change. On the same day I noticed the front nearside damaged because of ice, imagine if it had been the genuine set

I cant sleep at night knowing I have authentic imitation wheels on a 50k car. Then when your friends ask you about them you whether have to lie or tell the truth, im soo insecure so spending more money on wheels ensures my penis is larger than it really is.
