How to replace underseat subwoofers

Hi,

I'm sorry if i was not able to find another thread on this but i looked,

i just got my 335 and joined this forum! im very happy except for the sound system( i have basic) you can imagine...
my 08 Mustang GT had whole lot of better bass ! sorry BMW lovers...

first thing is stupid bass from under-seat subs, before i feel much bass i hear subs popping!, so i assume these speakers are weaker than the factory amp power output.

any how, i have seen threads that suggest what speakers to replace them with, but can any one give me instruction and tips on how to remove and replace them?

thanks.

You're lying. There are tons of threads on replacing them. Maybe you should try the "audio" portion of the forum.

wasnt there a post talking about how to do the equalizer settings so speakers would not pop or drop.....that helped them work much better? Cant remember the thread but a few guys that had speakers dropping on them found them to work much much better after the EQ adjustment...

You must love lots of bass. I'm always turning down the bass in my 328. I guess I have "German" tastes in music although I wouldn't have thought so. Good luck with your upgrades.

OH MY, i have to remove the seat! ...

if these Subs are not made for hard bass then they should have been properly filtered in such a way that it doesn't get freqs that cant handle, but that's not the problem. and Germans know they are selling the car in US, sorry bad excuse...

and what's up with the dude accusing me of lying? wtf!

and there is no equalizer in the basic system...

You should be able to just lift it back rather than have to take it completely out. As suggested, do a search on SWS/Earthquake subs, they are a good replacement for the basic systems subs

http://www.earthquakesound.com/sws.htm

The SWS-8 is the replacement for the BMW subs.

i would be more inclined to just put a box in the trunk than try to deal with replacing the default subs.
I have a box from http://www.4080enclosures.com/ in my RX-8. It looks and fits factory. I contacted Ainslie a while back to see if they ever did one for the E9X and I never heard back from him.

Couple pics..

Turn down the bass and it will not pop. Even the logic seven won't rock your world.

"feeling" bass and "quality" are not one and the same.

Its not a night club, its a car.

True, but this is also the first I've heard of a basic system popping, maybe his amp is screwed?

Nah. Hes probably driving down Hollywood Blvd. with the bass set to 9, the stereo set to 11, bumping some Kanye thinking "everybodys going to know I have a HUGEEEE wang".

The stock system wasn't meant to rock your world. If you want it to, you'll have to pay to play. Otherwise, put an exhaust on and enjoy an awesome exhaust note. I could care the radio. I've got some background tunes that sound fine when I play them.

The tiny under the seat 8" subs under the seat probably couldn't play anything below our idea of midbass either way. Just turn them to a reasonable level.

lol. Even the stock system sounds concert quality compared to the one I have in the CSL. Try out a real bad system, you'll appreciate yours more

There's only bass and treble in the basic system, not much adjustment to be done there unfortunately. He needs a decent amp and upgrade to the subs plus additional L7 tweeters. Enough to satisfy for most things, plus the amp gives you a touch of adjustment, not lots, but enough to get a decent'ish sound.

Some content (songs) are mixed differently than others. Some Bass lines mixed in lower than others. Stick in an iPod and you can further exaggerate the bass.

My 5 series has logic 7 and some songs sound better than others. Also, CD sound better than FM and FM sounds better than Sirius. My Ipod sounds about as good as a CD which is surprising.

My new to me 07 coupe is a small step down but I can live with it. Maybe one day I put some BSW upgrades and tackle the project myself but what I find is the basic is pretty good, and better than what I had 20 years ago.

wow there are soo many guys with sticks up their butt on this forum. Personally i think the O/P is right. I have a e92 335 with the l7 system and although it sounds good, it is crap compared to the B&O system in my cousins s5. not even close, the bass, mids, and highs are all MUCH better. I am currently building a fiberglass box for the left hand side of the trunk and i will be using a 10" jl w7
sound quality sweetness

Pretty close to my feelings too, I had L7 in a 5 series and basic in the 3.

Still never got them to pop though, not matter what audio input/quality I used (could never quite figure the best ipod output volume to use though for some reason... most likely stupidity)

If you have the I7 sound system and it sounds like crap, try changing the EQ settings from the default setting to suit your taste.

Note: The definition of sound quality applies to all volume. Your system might sound awesome at high volume, it is no good if the same quality cannot be reproduced at low volume. In other words, loud does not mean better.

I found myself in the same predictament, although you should have probably posted this in the audio portion. I wanted a touch more tight bass, not some head pounding bass, to complement the stock system and make it sound just a little better...I ended up spending a grand and having a custom setup put in the trunk and a wall blocking it off and the rear deck speakers removed and the deck ported to channel the base....two ten inch rockford fosgate speakers and a RF amp...the whole setup looks completely stock as well and two salesman at BMW didnt even notice it when I had it serviced...let me know if you have any questions...here are some pics..

I have logic 7 on mine and I love it. It's not the kind of bass that you'd get from a set of dedicated 12" subs but it's pretty awesome for a factory setup. I had a 2010 328i loaner with the basic stereo and I noticed that it popped as well when cranking it up. If you have the bass turned all the way to max, it'll do it. Try turning the bass down...

The logic 7 is leaps and bounds better than the standard radio. I really love the logic 7.

It's one of the best factory systems I've been in (compared to G37's Bose / Lexus's Nakamachi / etc)

Like a mentor once told me..."shit in and you get shit out"...he was referring to surveillance video quality but still
