Will dealer charge if they don't agree there is a fault?
I have, what I think is a diesel smell coming into the car. It's a kind of chalky smell that happens when I boot it. But, I'm not 100% sure that's what it is.
The car's going into the dealer anyway for some other things. If I mention the smell, and they spend some time taking the car out etc and then decide there is nothing wrong with it, will they try and charge for their time? EDIT: whoops, think I posted in the wrong section, sorry Mods.... |

Get it checked out, seeing as you just bought it I doubt you will get charged.
Have you ever smelt a DPF regeneration?

They don't make 'em like they used to. You wouldn't hear the youths of today saying that.

It won't be the dealer where I bought it from that's the problem.
Could be re-gen, that's a good idea, but the engine isn't running any differently - I thought the revs would be a bit higher at idle if it was this? It's funny, my nan never mentioned about the regen, but she did always bang on about lift off oversteer when I had FWD cars. |

It's a used one, April Reg.
Sorry for the rubbish photos, the weather's not really been conducive to taking decent shots! Will take some good ones in due course though BTW, how do I get a garage in my profile? |

Very nice.
Has anyone else detected the smell in the car when accellerating?

Cheers for the garage tip.
The wife says she can't smell it, but to me it's really obvious - odd. Will have to get some other opinions - if I'm the only one that can smell it then I won't mention it at the dealer. Loving the car though, went up to Sainsburys earlier and the other half phoned me to make sure I hadn't had an accident because I was so long!.... just couldn't resist going the long way! Had the window open too so I could hear the engine - I was freezing but it was a price I was willing to pay! |

OMG - I think that's it. Now I give it more thought, I've smelt the same thing in bed........normally just after a kind of trumpet sound.

Mine was only a fiver, but is only for Nokia. Seems they've upgraded it now with all the adapters for different makes. It's a very simple, but neat solution to the holding/charing problem - highly recommend it! |

Lovely car. Not sure I agree with you about the roaring sound of the mighty diesel engine I love the torque us barge owners get, but tend to turn the stereo up so that I can't hear the chug chug chug, hehehe
But I guess the 6 pot is a bit nicer sounding

Yeah, the 6 pot does sound a little more special than the 4, plus, the new engine sounds different to the older ones. It really does sound good. One review I read (not my words!) said it sounded quite like a 1960s Ferrari!
