A child or a dog?
So, we are sitting around being sloths today, and I have seen probably 10 commercials for "sponsoring" a child or an abused animal. (You know those, "help now, before it's too late. We will send you a picture of your sponsored child/animal for $10 a month.")
Which would you give your $10 a month to? I am a sucker for dogs and would much rather give my money to an abused animal. Yes it's true! (Actually, we do donate every year to the Human Society.)

Man those ASPCA commercials were laying it on thick yesterday..... probably pushing people to donate so that they could write it off before the end of the year.

I could understand sponsoring a kid instead of adopting or having one of your own, but a dog?
If you're going to do something for a dog just adopt one from a kill shelter or a place that places dogs from kill shelters. You save his/her life and open up a slot for another one that's on the euthanasia list. |

its all a scam. if you look closely in the child commercials, its always the same kid, they just change the clothes and background around.

Fuck people, they can take care of themselves.
We domesticated dogs and it's our responsibility to take care of em. But fuck "sponsoring" anything. There's no telling where Your money ends up. Probably doing fuckall to help anyone/anything that needs it. Just adopt a rescue dog or a pound puppy. |

I picked animals because I will NOT send money to some foreign country when there's so many problems here. And THOSE problems would likely be solved by the kids parents getting a job.

They were too proud to admit their situation but they couldn't even afford clothes for their two teenage sons. I gave him a few bags worth of clothes to send to them, probably no more than $500 or so when they were new, and I remember thinking that this feels like actual charity, and probably had more of a real world impact than everything I've donated up to that point in my life combined. If you truly want to help the less fortunate volunteer at a soup kitchen or food bank, etc... It costs nothing and really has the feeling like you've actually done something to help others at the end of the day. -BMW2006 |

If your serious about giving your hard earned cash to a charity. I would suggest getting involved with a smaller local group. It doesn’t matter kids or dogs just as long as you’re involved with a cause you believe in. Like others have said, with the big national organizations you never know where your money is going. With the smaller local charities it's fun to go to the fund raisers and charity events and get to know the board members. It's a great way to network and make business connections too.
