I just want to know if the winter tires should be installed or not for safe driving in winter in MN.
Thanks in advance. |

I recommend you have winter tires on your car. I don't know how many times my winter tires have saved me from a couple slick spots.

YES!
I would highly recommend it, even if you do not drive the car in the snow, summer tires are no designed to be driven in near freezing conditions.

Typically people downsize to smaller/narrower tires for winter setups because A) narrower tires cut through the snow better and B) your more likely to hit potholes/road mess and crack/damage a wheel in the winter. I switched from 17" staggered setup on my car to 16" for winter. That being said, winter tires on your 18s in the winter is obviously better than no winter tires.

since you don't have AWD I would say go with that thought, 225/45/17 would be the BIGGEST I would even consider (which is what I run on my AWD). If you're not overly concerned with looks and needing to be a stunner in the winter months then go with a 205/55/16 package and it'll give you the best results.

I run 225F 255R without problems. Works pretty good in the snow.

This is the 3rd winter with my LM25's, and I will probably swap them out for LM60s, since I tend to tear up my winter wheels. As for using 18's, you gotta have style during the half of the year you use winter wheels. Last edited by Spazdoc; 01-16-2010 at 10:56 PM.. Reason: corrected tire setup |

Blizzak WS60's have only recently been available in 18 in, thus the reason why I have LM25's. Like I said above, I am now going to get a set of WS60's for my setup.
I had WS60's on my previous car on a set of 16 in winter rims (17 in summers). The felt significantly more stable than the LM60's. Last edited by Spazdoc; 01-16-2010 at 10:56 PM.. Reason: corrected tire setup |

You two keep drinking that hater-ade together... LoL
One thing...I almost forgot: :finger: Quote:
I find it suprising that you feel that the WS-60's were "more stable" than the LM60's because tread pattern is exactly identical, the HUGE difference is in the rubber compound with the WS-60 being "softer" thus their speed rating is significantly decreased and also lablelled as a "studless ice and snow tire," while the LM is a "performance winter tire" . With that said, having the a softer compound on my WS's has made my cars feel more "floaty" than the LM's. Especially during corners and turns. I have a buddy with the LM 60's on his STI and to me that felt a lot more like a stable tire in terms of the "floatiness" feeling. But we all experience things differently so to each their own. Either way...winter tires are a must especially if you have an "i." I recommend them even on AWD cars. They just make a world of difference. Especially if you like to have "fun" in the deep snow like us xi guys .

Hey wait a minute...aren't Cubans just Mexican rejects that got deported to an island so they don't "infect" the gene pool with their "hairy ass and tiny testicle" gene?
