Exclamation Just been rear ended!

Evening all!

Well some goon just drove in the back of me! Mrs spoon flipped her lid and went mental!

The bumper looks fine though but it is so dark out its hard to tell for sure. I had a look with the BMW torch

I've got the nuggets details just incase I find anything but my only worry is incase theres anything I can't see damaged? Do you think this is likely? He didn't hit me at a huge speed but you never know!

I'm thinking of getting a garage to check it out but heres hoping its all ok!!

Keep old people of the roads!

Spoony

Even if it appears to not have any damage you'd be better off taking it into a shop and have them give it a good look-see. They'd know better what is amiss than you probably would.

Now, keep this in mind. One day you'll be one of those old people. Then you'll be saying "keep these young people off the road."

Sorry to hear of this misfortune

In relation to your question, pay some attention to bumper clips at either sides of the car where the bumper edge meets the rear quarter panel. We had a Golf rear-shunted and despite the low speed impact (5mph), a clip was broken on the adjoining panel, meaning it was impossible to get the gap closed to pre-accident standards without costing a bomb.

Definitely have an expert take a look to be on the safe side, you don't want your car to be one of those that roll around with a dog-eared bumper in the future.

Been there.

Best get someone to at least take a peek. There is a crash beam just behind the bumper on deformable mounts. If that has taken a hit then it'll need sorting.

Also www.askmid.com in case you need to check that your insurance is registered (for free), not to check that the other guy really is of course

Not a good sign.

I would get the car checked out as others have said. I would be surprised if there was not some damage to the crash absorbing structures.

im an automobile assessor, and from my experience i must say this:

Since the bumper is made of an elastic material sometimes after the impact caused in an accident, it tends to go back to its initial shape.

But... the panel is getting damaged and sometimes the rear floor as well.

An easy way to check is to open and close the bonet. if it opens and closes normally, then the panel should be ok.

In your case though that the bonet is damaged as well, there is only one way to tell for sure. Take your car to a bodyshop, and have them remove the rear bumper to inspect any possible bent in your panel and or floor.

I was tapped in the rear (no puns please) in a Vauxhall, outwardly it looked fine, but the boot floor was kinked, so as others have said, het it check by a professional.

My bonnet is fine. I've got the car booked in for Friday morning

The boot all seems fine so hopefully its nothing. I rang the number he gave me and no one answered but I left a message so lets see if they call back.

Let's hope this guy isn't having you on. My mate has been crashed into by a guy without insurance driving a knackered old van. *Always take pictures of both vehicles if you are involved in a bump.

It was a total nightmare getting a payout

Gotta support the pictures comment. I was rear ended two weeks ago and after working out that I had to apply brake, turn off engine, undo seat belt etc., I went straight out and photo'd everything. Do it before anyone can move cars etc. Evidence can be REAL important.

All fixed now and gotta compliment LV insurance for my second 'somebody elses fault' prang in 10 weeks, waived excess and they gave me a replacement car of same level (O.K. a Jag first and a Freelander 2nd) free (and its not on my insurance cover). My annual insurance is £180 with 9yrs NCB and age 50. Thank you LV!

A photo is indeed a good idea but at the time you don't always remember these things. I think its all fine anyways so lucky that way. Will know tomorrow for sure!

Hey beemerbird its all ok I went to a accident body shop as well and they checked it over so thats a relief! The E90 must have a tough rear end!!

I am a bit nervous of people when I stop now but hopefully it will pass!

I know the feeling! I was rear ended on the motorway whilst driving the ex-wife's Astra GTE. Luckily it had a tow bar and did not cause too much damage but destoyed the front of the clown in the Metro who decided not to stop. Was quite satisfying being able to drive away after swapping details whilst he had to wait for recovery lol. For quite a few weeks after I was watching the mirror every time I had to brake remotely hard. It soon passes though and you will stop being so conscious of it

Pleased the motor is OK as well - good news all round eh
