cantrell motorsport.com any good?

they are one of the few shops around here that will install my kw v2's + alignment + corner balancing... they also happen to be the only GIAC dealer around here which is the tune i'm going with...

just wondering if anyone knows their reputation, esp with coilover installs. strictly BMW also offers the same service for coilovers but they charge almost 50% more lol.

thanks.

For coils try Tru-Line Bellevue on the side street behind Discount Tire off of Bel-Red Road. The owner, a very nice guy, is ASE certified in suspension systems, brake systems and structural undercarriage issues. When I go to his shop I notice his clients' cars include BMWs, Porsches, an Aston Martin or two plus other premium brand cars. He does not do engine tunes and exhausts, however; just anything else related to underneath the car.

did you get your coils done there? do they do alignment and corner balancing?

cantrell quoted around:
coilovers would be $475
Corner balancing $125
Alignment $95

I got my Koni's and H&R springs done there. When I had mine's done I saw a blue E46 M3 having coilovers installed that day. I do not know if he does corner balancing since I did not ask to have it done. I would imagine he would but to be sure you need to ask.

He's also done my brakes, wheel alignments and mount and balance summer and winter tires. Tru-Line is a Tirerack recommended installer.
The owner, Byron, is a true professional and gentleman. Tell him that Harold w/the red 1 series referred you.

I don't know anything about Cantrell. However, Speedware and Tru-Line are both reputable companies. I chose Tru-Line because I get to deal with the owner directly as he performs all of the work himself. So if anything goes wrong you're looking at the person directly accountable. There's nothing wrong with Speedware either. They have a good racing reputation.

Suspension is fairly universal work.

There's no reason to pay $500+ for a spring/strut or coilover install. I got quoted ridiculous numbers from speedware and tru-line. Though I agree that they do excellent work, I would rather go to them for specific installs such as... downpipes where you have to remove an axle... FMIC where you have to remove and cut up the front bumper... ect.

I paid $250 for my koni/eibach install at a local shop. I forgot how much the alignment was (I went to an alignment-specific place). It honestly looks no different than any other car I've previously owned and I see no reason to pay the inflated price.

Speedware/tru-line is asking you for $750-800 in labor including tax. That's pretty much what I paid for my koni/eibach combo. I paid about $375 total and she rides just fine... you could buy a meth kit or JB3 with what you could save.

that's funny cuz i did my own fmic/charge pipe/intake install which i think are a lot easier than coilovers lol. i wish these shops did saturdays, it's such a hassle to get work done on a weekday.

I did routing already and installation of the pump/tank. I havn't gotten to wiring the CMGS and installing the injector, but it's all routed.

I have had misfire problems in third gear at 6500+ RPM's on map 3/5. Right now I'm trying to find some time to do a few logs and purposely trigger a misfire so Terry can figure out exactly what's wrong.

It could be one of two things...

A.) Too much boost for our 92 octane... I'm almost sure this isn't it as others are running just as aggressive as a map as I am and I don't think they're having the same problems that I've been having. But if this really is the case then meth injection will fix this as it'll raise octane levels to about 96-97 when spraying.

B.) Bad injectors. If so, I'll put on my stock airbox/charge pipe/divertor valves and hide the meth lines and see if the dealership will replace them for me.

-Edit, I had no problems with misfires before my downpipes were installed. First WOT pull after my downpipes were installed on map 5, boom misfire limp mode. I dunno.

could be plugs or coils too, find out which bank is miss firing and swap plugs or coils with another bank and see if it's the same bank that gets the code. if it does, it's prob the injector.

I've already replaced all plugs.

I ran a 2 gallon toluene mixture once and that would be around 94 octane and the car ran great on that tank.

I'm tempted to just fully install the meth injection and see if gas and the stupid sensitive N54 DMU are really the culprit.

I really don't want to fuck with the dealer and waste a couple hours going back to near stock engine-wise.

I was planning to run map 7 actually, but again, that could be too aggressive as I ran map 5 without meth and occasionally misfired.

Does your car rev all the way to 7000 in third without any problems? Ever had a limp mode? Ever try map 7 all the way to 7000?

Did you get an SES light? Got a BT cable to check the code or no?

Interesting. That's not a normal misfire code.

So on three different occasions at around 6200-6300 RPM's I'm misfiring in both banks 5/6.

Meh, looks like I'm going to the dealership...

Gonna stop thread jacking now, sorry!
