Found out about a mod for the e90
Im in Florida and there is a auto tuner near me. I called them, they are called Ride btw. and they said they have a piggyback type ECU for the e90 already. Supposed to plug it in and it gives like 45HP to bring it to 300HP even. thing is it drinks gas cause all the special management systems are disabled and such. it becomes like driving a old muscle car. No computers no bullshit. just motor and wheels. he also said i could always just press a button and reflash it to the orginel settings. ill find out more later, but sounds good

find that hard to believe, considering the valvetronic system and the fact that it would need more air to breath etc.... that would be a 45 hp difference and there is no turbo to change the boost etc. they are full of it unless BMW is rating the motor way too low. I doubt it would be that much of an increase and I would be skeptical of the actual programming if not tested and proven by a known and trusted manufacturer. Just my .02.

What a great idea! Pay $40k for a car because of all the brilliant German engineering in the engine and then disable it all, with the added benefit of shitty gas mileage! Oh and wait - I'm sure you void your warranty at the same time!! Gosh, where do we sign up?

you are a opinionated snob. the benefit is the 45HP and speed. i understand that some people do not want that, thats a given. not shitty gas mileage more like 12-15. There are people who like added performance.

personally...its a waste...cause i would much rather be able to take my car to Bmw for its bumper to bumper service than have 45 extra hp...
not worth it..to many downsides for the one plus

i plan on doing a bunch of mods to my engine..... once my waranty is up. also the benifit of waiting 4 years is that there will be tryed and true methods for performance that we know work and dont cause nearly as much damage yo your engine as a brand new upgrade would.

I'm happy with the 255hp........another 45hp probably won't make much of a difference.......and it's still less than the LEXUS IS350....

I don't think any driver (unless you're intro racing) needs a mod like that but it is very interesting. I am looking into mods that can use navigation as a dvd player or do more with it.
I am sure most of the people does not the get 325/330 based on its horsepowers. We get it because of its BMW, nothing else

I'd be alittle suspicious of any new computer mod, esp with the voided warantee.
Order a Mustang if you want 300HP. Friend just got one and it is crazy in a straight line... Heard that those engines are very easy to modify. |

45 extra hp with just an ECU mod on an N/A engine? Forgive our collective skepticism. Like everyone else's said, I like my 255 hp juuuuust fine. I like my BMW service even more, too.
Does anyone else smell that? It smells like...

Actually, it's probably not that hard to tune the engine to get close to 300hp peak on a dyno. Adjust the valve timing for peak horsepower at high rpm, raise the rev limiter for a few hundred more rpm. Peak hp on a dyno doesn't equal a street driveable car though.
A piggyback ecu would actually the be the easiest way to hack this together too. I'd still call BS though, I would guess that most of the extra peak hp coming from the new motor is in the increased rev limit. Manufacturer's don't usually use redline's as marketing tools, and revs = power. |
