Can an Idiot install a PSW alone?

Hey
I finally bought a psw and my friend says i should try and install it myself...
i am idiot when it comes to mechanics and cars and shit.
i can install an air filter, but this install seems much more involved and if you mess up could be quite a big problem...
the car will be in storage all winter thats why i could try, but id rather not experiment...
my dlr said 2.5 hours for him to install...
thanks for the help
saw the diy thread...well, didnt look to easy plus i like detail.

Haven't done it myself, but even dealers can mess up the contacts on the steering wheel, cause problems, and don't accept responsibility. If you go the dealer route, I'd find a tech who has done it before, even if it means travelling. But that's just me.

If you're relatively handy, and have the right tools, I'd certainly tackle it myself, since techs just want to get the job done as quickly as possible. You just have to be extra careful with the airbag and contacts. If you take your time, you should do fine.

As a final suggestion, since you seem to have plenty of time, why don't you post on your regional forum and see if somebody who has done it before is willing to supervise you? If you offer pizza and beer I'm sure they'd accept . Keep us posted, and good luck.

its a complicated install and if you have any doubts then you probably shouldnt do it. Cause it can be really easy to mess things up. I did and it cost me $300+ to fix it.

This can be a DIY for the right person, but no, if you don't have some experience. If you're not confident (it sounds like you're not) then don't try it. You'll be working around the airbag and if it goes off you could be hurt.
