How often is too often to polish the car - Detailers?
I am relatively new to auto detailing - I just picked up a porter cable orbital polisher and the menzerna line of polishes and sealers.
I polished my car about 3 months ago, but it now has some fine scratches in it and really would like to put the polisher on it. My question is - am I looking for problems by polishing the car every 3 months? What is a good "polishing" schedule to follow? Can anyone recommend a glaze (or any other product) that can go underneath my Menzerna FMJ to give it a really deep shine like you might see at an auto show? Scott |

Using an AIO for the maintenance type polishing is going to give decent results without having to use a deep polishing compound.
Klasse AIO and Menzerna Sealing Wax APO60 are great all-in-one cleaner/polish/sealants to use that have a minimal cutting power and beautiful results. They are also for use with machine or by hand. Obviously, the best results will be accomplished using a machine. Menzerna Power Finish is a very good machine polishing (medium cut) product that will rid the paint of most defects without being overly aggressive. Follow this process with the Menzerna Nano Polish PO 106 FA if somewhat inexperienced and working with a darker color. I will polish lightly maybe every 3-4 months with a deep polish once a year or so. My car isn't a daily driver so it may not be that often either. |

its going to depend on the car and how much paint is there to work with.
a good idea is to measure paint prior to paint correction or polishing. If you use a da (PC or Flex) you won't be taking too much off. If your using a rotary we have remove 5 -10 microns (on OEM paint) to even 20 microns (on fresh resprays). |

Not sure if 20% black friday apply this time From my experience using Flex 3401/Meg105 on X5, I took about 5 micron. And Flex3401/PO85RD is very hard to read, my guess around 1-2 micron if that. Hope that helps a bit. |

Seems as though all the boyz ahead of me have answered your question/concern. What you might want to focus on is not inducing the fine scratches between polishing. That's a bit tougher than getting them off (IMO) but can be done. That way you don't need to polish out scratches as often.
I agree with basically what everyone else has said i.e. it depends on the thickness of your paint and the products used to buff it but generally speaking you don't need to worry about removing any significant amount of paint with a PC every 3 months unless you're compounding.
