Hello all,
I currently have the stock 17" wheels on my black e92(non m) fitted with RFTs. I can put a set of 193M style 18" alloys straight on as I know someone who is traveling for a year so willing to swap whilst their car is parked up but I have a few questions and was looking for some help. I understand my tyres have tyre pressue monitors on them, how do these work and fit on the new wheels? What is your opinion on a black e92 se, with matt black kidney grills, these wheels and a very light window tint. Thanks Last edited by vintagevrs; 12-01-2009 at 03:08 PM.. |

Your car would look daft with those rims on, get either 189's or 230's.
Pressure monitoring is done via abs sensors

Those are the wheels on his car so I dont have a choice. Would be able to just swap. Found some pics of black wheels on black E9*s there and not too fussed now. How does the TPS work through the ABS?

You have an SE. It will look daft with those rims. Just go out and get set of proper rims.

m sport wheels don't really "go" with an SE....Just like m3 wheels don't "go" with a 335i....just my 2 p....
But I do like m sport wheels and m3 wheels...but i'll never put them on my car... |

Thanks for the replies, prob will leave it be. I like my 17"s fine but just thought might make a nice change since I have the option. Might look when its time to change the RFTs

I like the 17" 335 SE rims. If that's what you have?!

It uses the abs sensors to measure the rotational speed of the wheels. A punctured tyre will show up as a significant enough discrepancy in rotational speed in comparison with the other wheels, to set off the alarm.
Someone may come along with a better description later but I suspect all you want to know is if there is any obstruction to fitting other types of wheels and the answer is no. Reset the TPMS when you fit the new wheels and you're good to go. |

My current wheels are style 204
Here are the wheels I have the option to fit. Thanks to member brummelenj for the picture I am not a fan of putting M badges on non M's etc but I did not realise that the 193's were only for M models. I suppose the name should have been a clue |

Mate its up to you, from that picture it looks fine its not like you'd be pretending it was an M car or anything. Worst thing you can do is put them on then think 'nah they look sh1t' then its another 15 minutes or so to swap them back. You have nothing to loose.
The plate on the left hand side of the drivers door frame (looking into the car) gives tyre pressures. Make sure the pressures match for your car and the wheel size, reset the TPMS and Bobs your uncle and fannys your mothers sister. Foxy

Think you're right, don't think its trying to look like something it isnt either. If I get a decent weekend coming up soon I will see what they are like on. Going to see the top gear show in dublin this weekend so that should be interesting and then rally school the weekend after that. Might be January by the time I try it!
