335d leaves me on Monday

Well time has come to part company with the brilliant 335d E92 coupe.

2 years of ownership have been brought to a premature end by my employer making me redundant after 22 years and a long fight to stay.

so i am calling on the "early termination insurance" and sending her back. couldn't keep her as there are other cars to use in the family. but what a car!

i have just loved this car as no matter what it faced on the road it just kept giving and giving.

what this car could not do is not worth mentioning, it would and could take on all comers, irrespective of what it was (ok just a little smoke blowing there). best time was the straight line sprint from 50mph to higher speeds :cheers with a Porsche GT3 RS. i think the driver could not have guessed that his £100k missile was going to humbled (well up to the speed that he was happy to go to) by this rep mobile. BTW i know he was trying by the noise his car was making and the squat nature of the suspension during the acceleration period, and it / we were going!!!

It has been on track a few times, its led some wings at our events and even done the ring (ring sticker on its boot lid).

155mph and 40mpg is one hell of a motor.

Dario

to all those that wish me well, i thank you for your thoughts. i'm now serving 5 months garden leave which is ok strangely. i have a 12 month anti-compete clause in my contract (which before you ask IS fully enforceable). and after that i will see what my future brings. fancy not working for an employer any more and working for myself.

so i have now 104 days to decide what to do next. I have some ideas after having been with the same business for the past 22 years. incidentally i was a sales director for a company selling UPS systems (big ones) and diesel generator systems which were my speciality. last years sales were £5m and that was in a depressed market.

I decided to challenge the boss when he tried to withhold the annual bonus for myself and my team which was a lot, and it went down hill from there (this is only my opinion of course). but unblemished record and excellent capability count for nothing when you piss off the man!

still there is a tribunal hearing in the offing where i get to have my day. they keep trying to make an offer, but its not enough to prevent me taking it to the bitter end on. process was wrong and fairness was flawed. I managed to fend them off for 3 months so that was nice (and expensive for them and me LOL)

as for the GT3 RS story, i have nothing to fear in stating that this DID happen and i was as surprised as the driver was when we were within 5m of each as a single carriage way rad which opened up to a dual carriage way. i slapped my gear leaver across the gate knocked it down a couple ready for the jump to light speed and we were both away full chat. his pipes were bellowing the beautiful noise of the flat 6 and i guarantee he was trying his damnedest! clearly i was trying to pass him and he was trying to stop me LOL. i could not get past or close the gap up to (i can't say the speed, but use your imagination as the 335d will leap to this speed quite easily) him, but neither did he open up the gap.

i'm sure that he could see me laughing off my BOLLOCKS as it was just so funny. and there ain't no way he was judging the gap and modulating his throttle to keep the gap constant whilst looking in his rear view mirrors.

conclusion: couldn't catch him, but had a damn good try and a giggle. in the end i chickened out as jail time became a certainty.

Sorry to hear this Dario. I have been through the same rubbish process with my last employer. I was there for 10 years and was let go after some stupid decisions made by the senior management, of course they stayed and I had to make room. After coming up with great alternatives all of which were turned down I left with a nice cheque in my hand but a feeling of being let down. I guess that is the sign of the times. After a few months I am still trying to find work (even with 19 years in IT!) and am going down the self employed route as I havent been getting anywhere.
My e92 is also for sale but unfortunatley I did not have any termination insurance - mistakenly thinking my role was safe!
All the best for the future.

Really sorry to hear about your job mate, hope you find something soon. Just remember that everything happens for a reason!!

I had a play with guy in a new 330d in my Cayman 2.9 the other day and I pulled around 4 cars away from him and that was from a rolling start (around 30mph). My car is 270hp and around 1300kgs. I have a 325d and the cayman leaves it for dead even from a rolling start. Even if the 335 was mapped the GT3 would just leave you, trust me I have been in one and I have had 330i, 325d and been in 335d. He must have been running on 4 cylinders

Enjoy the break, relax and re-group. Leaving the company may well be the best thing to ever happen to you.

Dario, sorry to hear about the job, good to hear you stuck up to whats right with your boss though.

I agree with all your comments on the 335d, a truly remarkable car.

I too have raced faster machinery. I Raced a f430 spider once and stayed with him and i could hear he wasa nailing it? I dont understand why he didnt pull away.

Had fun with a C4S and was quicker than that also.

Good luck in the future. Do you still have the Rad?

f430: The engine's output specifications are: 490 PS (360 kW; 483 hp) at 8500 rpm and 465 N·m (343 lb·ft) of torque at 5250 rpm. The F430 has a top speed of 196 mph (315 km/h).

I think you will find his car was either broken or he was not trying.

Hey thanks Carlos for the nice encouraging words and to every body else! I wont let this rest until i either get a good settlement or we ar in an Employment Tribunal. don't really care now. spent £3.5k defending myself from their unwarranted and wrongful approaches. at least that made them take 3 months to get to the final point!! (so 3 more months pay o top of the 5 months and redundancy (statutory) pay.

if it cost me another £10k i am committed to see them in the dock or paying more than they have offered..... I don't believe in forgive and forget, or turn the other cheek. LOL

i see you disbelieve 335d owners, possibly you have forgot one important element, "the determination of the driver of the 335d"

LOL

Good luck with all that Dario and hope you get a good result.

I'd sold my 350, to be collected this Saturday, and that guy has just been hauled in for a pay-cut and possible redundancy so he's pulled out of the deal. A complete pisser for me as I've had to let someone else down too but hey ho. Battling with dealers as we speak but the deal wont be near as sweet. This 'recession' gets to us all at some point even if via the back door.

Probably because in reality an F430 and a C4S skip and bounce over our shitty roads even more than the 335D meaning they actually only put down 50% of their power until they are already moving at a rapid pace.

Yes Carlos i still have the Radical and trailer and X5....

its all paid for so no need to jump to sell, besides if i can merge my interests in to a business that would be an ultimate goal.

Scott, i think you will find. The driver came under this catagory ''All the gear, no idea''

It does happen mate. Im not claiming my car is quicker.
