I Hate My Car

…………. I have had it for best part of a year, have done some decent upgrades to it – 19’ 225’s (not cracked yet) and the alpine speaker upgrade. The car is absolutely mint, however it squeaks.

I am pretty sure it is the rubber door seal around the rear driver’s side door. I have done the silicone spray thing and that was no good. I have taken it into a dealer a couple of times and they cant do anything, and it has got to the point where I no longer enjoy driving the car.

I get into the car every morning in a good mood (most of the time), by the time I have dropped my son of at school, the wifey at work and got to my desk I am in a foul mood. This is solely down to the fuc#ing car.

It costs me over £500 a month to keep the thing on the road and I have had enough. Seriously thinking about shopping it in and moving to the dark side (Audi)

Rubber seals, plastic trim dry's out over time making it stiff etc, Have you tried Autoglym's Vinyl & Rubber Care or Bumper Care, wipe it on then leave it for a while, then just buff off the excess.

Think we all go through phases like this with our cars, although I never did with the Porsches I owned have to say, probably due in a large part to the good customer service I received. My E90 330i M sport suffered with too many unacceptable rattles etc but the E92 335d seemed fine. Ok, the drivers side seat belt butler packed up and I had a sticking headlight washer, but nothing serious by any means.

I've never driven a 335i and maybe I should have before getting the S5 but I tried the M3 again tbh. I have to admit that the build quality and aesthetics of the interior are better in the Audi, but it's not all about that in owning and driving a car if we're car enthusiasts and I'm awaiting the RS5. As I've said and will always say you can't look at the whole of a marque in isolation, I narrow it down to specific models based on having driven like for like. It's up to the dealers etc. to earn my, if any brand loyalty!

Drive another car and see how you feel about yours again when you get back in it.

Will happily give it a go. It’s funny, as per the advice I received from e90post I siliconed the doors seals only for the dealer to tell me that is the exact opposite to what BMW recommend.

However after the dealer having two goes at it, I would say its probably 5x as bad now as it was previously was. Moral of this, there is much more knowledge on here than there is at the dealers – but we have all known that for ages anyway haven’t we.

Constructive words as always Helen, I guess what I really want is for BMW to sort it out. Surly it cant be that difficult, even if they changed the fucking seals.

What also pisses me off is the poxy text you get from Synter asking if you are ‘totally delight with the work that has been done’, NO I AM FUCKING NOT. (excuse my French)

You can probably tell I am boiling point with this

I thought it was WD-40 that was recommended on here? Which is SILICONE FREE.

Most cars squeak and rattle, but funnily enough the cheapest cars I've been in don't do it.

I understand the squeaking is CAUSED by silicon in cheaper car wash / wax products.

Like the man said, after using some old MER shite polish mine were creaking like mad. I cleaned the seals with wd40 on a cloth then wiped dry with a lint free cloth.

Sorted.

This problem is caused by silicone. Usually from cheaper waxes.

Clean the seals with WD40 and change to a silicone free wax.

Whatever you do DO NOT spray silicone lubricants onto the seals.

Prestige cars tend to have better fitting interior trims and smaller tolerences between different trim pieces and as such the twisting of the body causes interferences between panels and creates squeaks, creaks and rattles! Lower budget cars obviously have panel fitment you can fit a bus through and so tend not to have this problem.

When I pay more I expect better, not worse, irrelevant of how it happens to come about. (that is aimed at BMW by the way)

Saying that my range rover sport didn't squeak, also driving an 08 full fat range rover at the moment and that doesn't squeak at all either.

Think it's luck of the draw by the sounds of it.

That's cos RR's etc waft along on a barge like ride of air suspension. They wouldn't squeak if they were built entirely from un-oiled Mahogony.

They're designed not to knock the ash off your cigar when you mow down another group of irritating lefty pedestrians....

How the hell do you become lefty by being a pedestrian FFS??! LOL. I'm still firmly left of centre virging on anarchic regardless of wheels or feet)) And proud of it. And out of step on this forum by being so. And dont give a flying feck.

Anyway...squeaks. Yes, I have some. And rattles. Still love the car 3 years on though, but no brand loyalty at all. Currently looking at used Porsche 911, new Scirocco R, 135i or A5! What the hell, I'll still be driving the 330 a year on...

BMW started to get this door squeak problem in 2004. It was shocking on my 5 series. But fortunately, easy to sort out - just clean with WD40 a few times and make no silicone can get back onto the seals.

In terms of rattles, the e90 just doesn't have the bomb proof interior build quality of the e46. I had four e46's in a row and zero rattles.

My last E91 had the same problem and the dealer told me off for using silicone based products. They however, put some kind of teflon coated tape round the door frame. the rubber then sits against this non-stick surface and the squeaks stoppped. Sure i have seen details of this on the US board if you want to do it yourself.
