To diffuse or not to diffuse?

Hi All

Right, as you my have already seen I have been doing some exterior mods and all was fine apart from the tips of the Remus protruding out too far. (below)

I wanted to keep the Remus on because it just sounds so damn good, so my options were to shorten the pipes somehow (which cannot be properly done on the E90, being stood under the car and having a good look with several engineers) other option pay a small fortune for a diffuser that is made for an E92/93 and that might not fit properly.

So ended up in mid project with a custom build diffuser combined with a bit of a flat under tray. Now the whole unit can be removed very easily so I have the option to discard.

Here’s the deal, better with the diffuser or without:

Marc, is it the finished article? Or are you wrapping it in CF?

It looks quite brutal and chunky as is, and tends to highlight the problem with the pipes.

It might look less so in your face if the diffuser was sprayed body colour, it might flow better, although that might fly in the face of the look you are trying to achieve.

Not going CF wrap as the rest of the car is matt black, don't mind too much against the 'brutal look' as the car looks very aggressive anyway.

I have the option to go for an aluminum version anodised matt black, if I went for that option then I can have couple of fins down the centre under tray for added air flow, but the disadvantage of alloy is that it can resonate, but hey I have a Remus Race!

Still work in progress but one that's one the right track

The only prblem with an anodised version it will scratch easily, powder coat maybe ? it's more durable.

Yeh much better than before.

Leave it as it is, looks fat and mean which is the look you're going for. It's different too, don't think anyone will have something like that. The thing with photos is that stuff like that sticks out (no pun). Whereas if you were to see it IRL it wouldn't be so much of an issue.

Good job.

Car is complete from what I can see...?

That sounds much better, and very unique. The added resonance will just add to the tunes of the Remus

Thanks, all good...though may go alloy (like hotcoupe suggest below)

Nearly done, got my springs just need to get them fitted, probably the same time when the final diffuser goes on.

Yep, you're spot on there, wouldn't of gone looking for a diffuser if running stock.

Agree, think it's the way I'll go, even in aluminum the whole unit is a simple bolt on and off one piece structure....hey I can get multiple one's in different colors depending on what mood I'm in cool skins for my rear end!

Looks good Marc, a little different which is always good and seeing as us E90 owners have few diffusers to choose from, a good move.

Look forward to seeing it in real life as it is difficult to see the real effect from pictures.

I think it would look much better without the diffuser.

looks good mate ,just one thing though can you not get it to fit a bit further over to the outside of each exhaust just looks a bit tight on the outside edges? maybe just the pic ,but its very unique and thats a good thing.

I know it's not perfect but for the job in hand it does make the pipes look more aesthetically pleasing on the eye, plus it adds to the overall rawness look of the car.

Think when I get the aluminum one designed and fitted it will again improve it no end....as always is with these things "a work in progress"
