Snows or all-season

OK, I posted this in the e90 general forum because I'm sure it'll get a lot more eyeballs. The question I have is should I replace my stock RFT tires with solid all-season's and just store my RFT's for when the lease comes due? My alternative is getting serious snow tires for the winter and using the RF's for the summer. I've just heard so many bad stories of the RF's that I just asume ditch them. The down-side of using all-season's is that it's just not as good as hard-core snow tires for Minnesota's famous winters. Any thoughts?

Thanks
AS

I'd suggest going for two sets of tires. From what I know of Minnesota's winter, you'd benefit quite a bit from winter tires.

Don't hinge the decision of whether to buy snows on the RFT issue. You live in Minnesota, and you should have snow tires on the car. Additionally, why compromise the performance of your car for three years by not putting proper summer tires on it? You have a ZSP 6MT. You are obviously going to want to take full advantage of the car's capabilities.

If you don't like the RFTs, then replace them with summer good non-RFT summer tires. For winter tires, it probably won't matter so much if you get RFTs, although it will probably limit your choices somewhat.

Get two sets of tires. You can find a good set of used wheels on e90post.com. The Dunlop Winter Sport M3 are great tires and come in run flats. I just got a set and they are highly rated at www.tirerack.com I got the tires at Discount Tire. Good luck!

+1 for mkoesel's advice
why do people find it OK to run all seaons in winter (especially places that are known to receive quite a bit of snow)?

all seaon doesn't mean GREAT in all seasons, it means they're alright in all seaons. Like general physicians, or family doctors, they know the basics of all the systems in the human body, but not specialized in one particular area. Would you go see your family doctor for surgery? no, you go see a surgeon for one.

go for full snow and full summer.

All season tires are just average at everything and hence don't deal with anyone condition exceptionally well. Go for specialized tires... all seasons will hold you back, especially in winter.

Good advise indeed. However, what about those of us in the edge of the snow belt, or at least that's what I think it is, such as Washington DC? I need to change my RFT's soon and am totally confused as to what to do considering that true snows here in DC would be overkill. I don't want the dry ride to suffer.

Would a good set of all-seasons such as the Pirelli PZero or Kumho ASX suffice? Btw, I've read and read and read so many posts on this tire issue that I'm more confused now than ever.

TMAN - Go to www.tirerack.com and read the reviews by buyers for the Dunlop Winter Sport M3 (which now comes in a run flat, which Dunlop calls DSST). Click on SURVEY and REVIEWS. You can select by car make (filter by BMW, Audi, and Subaru) and you're answers about this tire for the DC area will be answered. The bottom line: This is the tire! Good luck!

Yeh, I've looked there but not at that tire specifically. Let me go see now.
