Do the 2010 headrests tilt?

Some pics I've seen seem to show people's front headrests tilted. I thought those were gone in 2009!

That would be a seriously bad idea for comfort...pretty sure that's not the case.

In my opinion, I would strongly prefer tilting headrests. I have them in my 2007 and love them.

Unfortunately, that is the case for 2009 models which are equipped with Active Headrest. Nevertheless, I don't really find it discomforting.

Not all 2009s -- Mine is 09 and I did not get the active head rests. I believe March builds forward of 09s.

See, there was no Active Headrest qualifier in the original question.

BMW added active headrests in 2009 (I believe). This means that the headrests have less manual adjustments, but they also don't have that annoying forward rake that you see on some many current cars.

While wsome may be quick to dismiss this as more "decontenting", in fact BMW has quietly added a very valuable safety feature.

Are you sure? I know it can tilt up and down, but not backward and forward. I am pretty sure all 09 models were fitted with Active Headrest and mine is a January 2009 build. Is your car a E93? The headrest on the E93 looks different from the E90/E91/E92 although I am not quite sure.

All LCI E90's have active headrests, which removes the tilt functionality. I'm almost certain all 2009 E92's have them too, regardless of build date.

So, let me see if I am understanding this... There are new headrests late 2008 models onward. They go up or down, but don't tilt. This makes them "active?"

What am I missing here?

Late 2008 build dates, not model year. All model year 2009+ US-spec 3 Series have active headrests. They don't tilt forward or backward manually, but adjust in a crash.

Some seem to be confused here - BMW didn't remove a feature. They added a safety feature. They don't adjust based on speed as said above. This is about protecting your neck and head in a crash.

The active part is that they move forward in the event of an accident to prevent whiplash.

Same here. They are far less intrusive than the ones on my previous Acura.
