very quiet but noticeable honking type sound from dash?
my car makes a very quiet sound from the dash mainly only can hear it when car is in reverse or drive mostly and at a stop. to best way i can explain it is it sounds like a horn from a car alarm (a VERY quiet one) if i just turn my radio on a little i cannot hear the sound over the radio. anyone know what this sound could be? its on an 07 335i. thanks

I hear a similar noise except it's coming from the trunk. The sound comes from the left hand side of the trunk under a small panel. It sounds like an alarm that you hear in the game Command and Conqueror to indicate that a nuclear strike is about to happen or something.

Back to the topic, Yeah I hear the same sound on mine (08). I never really paid any attention to it, until my mother who was in the back seat mentioned it... "what's that noise, it sounds like a very quiet horn?" Me "I dunno, i never noticed before, I always have music playing." It sounds like morse code or something...

If it is a fast series of short noises, it could be your cell phone creating some interference. This is more likely if you have a blackberry or smartphone than a 'regular' cell phone.
Just a thought . . .

I can honestly say I've never heard this in my 09 - but I never actually use the radio, it's always hooked to the iPod. You might want to note what electronics you're using when you notice it - it could be something to do with a specific set of options/equipment in your car.

if your talking about the constant humming sound its the fan to the logic7 amp. look under the plastic panel on the left side of the trunk and u will hear it. you can also feel it in the driver quarter panel

It's not the fan. I hear that too. I can hear it start a little after I start my car. The horn/beeping sound only happens once in a while. I usually have my music on too loud for me to even hear it but once in a while the sound get's really loud(not over my music loud but when everything is quiet) and I can hear it even after I turn my car off. I've read that it takes a while for all the electronics to completely shut down sometimes. I figured thats what it was. Just like a computer with lots of processes running does. Although it's annoying I really don't mind as long as the car is fine.

Yeah- the distant fog-horn sound. My 07 has it, too. It bugged me for the first week and now I don't even notice it (and I have sensitive ears- I can hear it even with the stereo on). Not sure what it is. Water pump? Maybe the LP fuel pump, if it has an accumulator instead of a return line.?

I do hear some strange sounds while sitting idle at the red light traffic. Because of my limited hearing, but I heard the sounds and couldn't tell where it came from. It's freaking me out. I looked around to see if there is any cars nearby me, but I don't see.
I have a Logic 7 stereo system.

Logic 7 here, no comfort access here, still hear it... With or without my IPOD hooked up, also have my phone BT to the car, but I still hear it whether the phone is there or not... How does something so inconsequential become a big deal for us? I think our best bet is to just ignore it... But it definately is annoying when the music is off.. Ah well, no matter, the car ain't gonna explode is it?

not really a big deal. but you wouldnt think that we always need to have the radio on to mask an annoying sound in our BMW. i mean its not like they are 20 year old turds.
