Rather hardwire an "add a fuse" circuit and install stand alone 12V socket in the boot. That way you got the power you need!

Radio shack has it. Just need unswitched power and a ground. I wired up a few of them in my old car and they worked great. You will need to cut a decent sized hole in a panel, but if you do it on a panel that's cheap to replace it's no biggie.

If you don't know how to wire a simple 12V DC circuit you should not attempt to do anything with adding a power outlet to your car. Wired incorrectly the car battery has enough amperage to literally burn the car to the ground - it's happened a number of times to people who rigged up power wires without knowing what they were doing.

It is not difficult to add an unswitched power outlet. You need a fuse holder which will be attached to the positive battery terminal. The size fuse you use will depend on the amount of current you will be drawing. Probably 15 amp or 30 amp at most. You need to know the power consumption of the component that you plan on powering to decide on the appropriate fuse. You also need a 12 volt socket and a length of positive and negative wire, at least 10 gauge wire. The 12 volt socket can be placed wherever you like, then the 10 gauge pos/neg wires need to be routed to the battery where the positive wire will connect to your fuse holder and the negative to the negative battery ground on the car body. If you don't understand everything in these instructions, pay someone to do it for you.

Can someone show me the picture of the flashlight everybody is talking about ? In my glove compartment there is nothing like that, nor a charging port/dock :-(
