It likely has to do with demand. I suspect few E-90 buyers want a wooden steering wheel. You will find more are interest in the M steering wheel.
The last car I had with a wooden steering wheel was a 1971 XKE which I replaced with a 15" Nardi wooden wheel because the stock wheel was failing when I bought the car in 1975. While the Nardi was a much better wooden wheel than the stock Jag wheel it did not offer the low-slip surface, padding, and no splinters you get on the steering wheels on modern BMWs.

You can get wood trim in the center section of the steering wheel. It is a BMW accessory, but I haven't seen wood on the rim of the wheel itself.

I don't think any member here has gotten the wood trim for the steering wheel. I think it takes away the sporty look of a BMW but it's your choice

I have never seen wood on a BMW wheel except for the center piece.
A wooden wheel is for old starchy people buying a Benz!

I'm surprised that so many go for the wooden trim, that is bad enough, but a wooden wheel, well that woodent work

However, you are probably correct in that BMW would sell loads. It amazes me that they sell so many cars with automatic transmissions. |

I took this screenie from the accessories configurator incase anyone reading this thread doesn't know whats meant by wood trim on the steering wheel, but not on the rim itself.
Personally if I had the wood interior, I'd probably put in the part wood shifter, MAYBE the parking brake, but I think the steering wheel is over-doing it. I don't like the aluminum trim in lieu of that wood steering wheel either. I think the only way it would look nice would be like on 'Individual' cars whereby there is only a thin ring of wood on the wheel's handling surface, as opposed to the top chunk and botton chunk e.g. Mercedes style. Is it possible to just order an 'Individual' steering wheel like that from BMW?
