Does this sounds like a bad Oil Level Sensor?

Wife occasionally gets a small warning light when driving to work, then the oil light comes on when she turns the car off. Every time I go to check it though, there's no warnings to be found. After 3 weeks I finally nailed it down to a low oil warning message this morning. Thing is, it's completely random when this comes up, and every single time I do an oil level check, it shows it at the max. Plus just last weekend we drove the car for 3 hours on the highway and the warning never came on. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason behind it. So I'm thinking the sensor might be bad and did read that there were issues early on...it's an '06. So before dropping the $155 for the sensor, I just wanted to see if it sounds like I'm on the right track.

I had that exact same problem in my E46 330. Replaced sensor, problem went away.

Thanks man. The removal of the simple dipstick is so irritating at times. Guess I'll add another new part to this car.

I'm guessing this is as simple as drain oil, change sensor, refill oil? If so, I only changed the oil about 5k miles ago, is reusing the oil a bad idea?
