2006 software update

Does anyone know if theres a common problem I can say I'm having to get a software update? I don't have POI or the ability to play mp3 cds and the dealer told me they dont update software unless they have to since they need authorization from BMW. My 2006 330i is still under warranty for another year and I would love for this to be updated but not sure how to achieve the upgrade. Thanks a lot.

What's the build date of your car?

If it's before 9/05, print out

http://www.bmwtis.com/tsb/bulletins/...p/B653005g.htm

and give it to your service advisor, it clearly states that the ability to play mp3's on the vehicle is a problem and it's covered under the BMW New Vehicle Warranty.

Yep, and they won't update the software under warranty unless they need to update one of the control modules in the car to fix a problem.

Obtaining a 2009.1 Navigation DVD would fix that isssue and you can burn your own copy if you check this thread out.

You still need the software update on the iDrive to enable the features for searching through POI's. Even with the 2009.1 disc in the drive. (I had 19.1 on my iDrive and couldn't browse POI's or any of the other newer NAV features, need to have the software updated, I got updated to 32.1 and got all of the new Nav features.)

All the navigation DVD gives you is the updated maps and updated lists of POI's, they do not update the software on the car or give any new features.

You know, now that I think about it, you said your car was built after 9/05? And you don't have the ability to play an MP3 disc in your car?

Double check the build date of the car (not the model year, my car is a 2006 model year but built in 04/05) if it truly was built after 09/05, I would consider not being able to play MP3's on the radio to be a problem that they should fix under warranty as it's a feature of the vehicle that isn't working as intended.
